[E] I'm
[A]
[E] going to be [B] covering the song Wooden Ships.
I'm using this video as a live performance to see how the song is played.
[D#] I'm sure it's played many different ways, and I think it's even played by [C] different bands.
They start off by [B] playing this sequence.
[Em] They're going to use that throughout the song.
[F#] We have a D [E] add 9th, totally open, just pressing down the 7th [A] fret.
That's on the [D] D and G string.
[B] [Em] And then drop down one fret on [A] the G string.
[F#] That's the D minor add 9th.
So [A] it goes down [E] to this chord, which is I think some kind of C chord, although I'm not really [A] sure.
[Em] And then it goes up to the [E] E 5th.
So there's a barre chord on the 7th and 9th frets.
I'm pressing [A] here on the E string, 7th fret.
And I'm pressing on the 9th fret on the [E] D and G string.
I'm also making sure I emphasize the low [D#] E string.
And all together, [A] it sounds like this.
[Em] [A] [E]
[A]
[Em] [D#] And sometimes you'll see them toggle here [E] with this middle finger on the D string.
[Em] [C#] Or [A] back up.
[F] So it may be like [A] this.
[E]
And [N] they play around with those chords.
And then they transition right into this chord right [Em] here.
Nice open chord on the 10th fret.
That's an E minor 7th.
And they go right into it.
[F#] So [A] it's
[E]
[Em]
Then we go to an A minor [Am] 9th.
[Em] I just shift that formation here [Am] up one ear.
And then to a D minor 9th.
I'm [F#] just going to press down on these [G] four strings.
E, [F] B, [C] G, and D string [Am] on the 10th fret.
[G] And you can hit all the strings open.
[F] [Em] Together
[Am]
[Dm] [G] it's
I think more of the emphasis is on the D and G [F] string.
The E and [Dm] G string.
Not so much on the high [N] E.
And all together [Em] again.
[Am]
And then they [G]
often toggle up to the 12th fret on the D string.
[Dm] [F] So that would sound like [Em] this.
[Am] [F]
[Dm] [N]
And that goes on for a little while.
[F#] Toggles back and forth between those two riffs.
So now we go back to our last [N] bit of the song.
And that transitions after another repeat of our first riff.
So we [A] have [E] nice
[A] [E]
[D] [E]
soft chord up [B] here.
Playing on the 5th fret.
And then we transition to a kind of upbeat [C] on the C major [B] 7th.
To an Esus2.
Or just an E minor.
And it sounds [E] like this.
[C]
[B]
[C]
[B] [G] And it goes back and forth between those two chords.
And then we build [D] up.
Back to the E [B] up here.
E7.
[E] And then to the original.
