How to Play Up On Cripple Creek - The Band (cover) - Easy 5 Chord Tune chords
Start Jamming...
Hey folks, Party Marty here, Easy Guitar Tunes.
I've got another request from one of my subscribers.
Actually a couple of friends requested this as well.
It's also one of my favorite tunes,
another one that's called Cripple Creek, Up on Cripple Creek by the band.
Really, really cool
tune to play.
A lot of people love this song.
[N] I strum it kind of funky, a little bit of a funky
strum, but it, either way, either way you do it with these chords it's going to work.
I also add
a slap strum.
There's a little demo video there if you want to click on it to give you an idea
what a slap or muted strum is.
I find it gives it a little bit of color.
You can either use it or
not use it.
These chords will work either way.
So let's give this one a try.
The [A] chords to it are A,
[D]
[E] D, E.
There's an F [F#m] sharp minor, so it's a full bar on the second fret, [A] and then your last two
fingers on the [E] second and third string from the top in the fourth [F#m] fret, and [G] then a G.
Sorry.
I do [D] a little bit of a G run as well on this one.
It's just kind of,
[G]
so your second finger or whatever way you guys shape your G,
you can do it either the index or the second, and you're just plucking it once,
and you're using the third in the third fret.
So it's [G#m] second finger, second fret, top [F#] string,
and then,
[G] so if you guys can get that one, it just kind of adds a little bit to the song.
They
do something similar in the song.
So [A] again, the chords are A, D,
[D]
[E] E, [F#m] F sharp minor, and G, and then that run.
Plucking the top string and then just running
from the second finger to the third on [F#] the top string in the second and third fret.
[G]
So [E] this drum, I'll try to play it slow.
It's kind of a funky strum, but I'll add the slap
strum as well to it.
It's kind [A] of like this.
[D]
[A] [D]
[E] [A]
[D] It's kind of an even,
[D] [E] all the major chords.
[A]
A slap, [D] D slap, A slap, D, [E] E slap,
[A] A slap, [D] D slap, [A] A [D] slap, D, [E] E.
[A] [B] So play with that a little bit.
Run that back, learn that back a few [N] times.
Use those chords,
and you know, as soon as you get the rhythm of that song, then come join us and play along with
us.
So, [G] Up on Cripple Creek, the [G#m] band.
This is a real fun tune, guys.
Hope you guys enjoy this one.
[A] Let's give her a go.
[D] [A]
[D] [E] [A] When I get over this mountain, [D] you know where I wanna go.
[A] Straight down [D] the Mississippi River [E] to the Gulf of Mexico, [A] to Lake John Julianna.
[D] Little Bessie girl I almost knew.
[A] She said, [D] just a truck home by, [E] if there's anything that she could do.
[A] Up on Cripple Creek, she [D] sent me my spring release.
She [E] tells me I don't have to speak.
She [F#m] depends on the drunkard's [G] dream, if I ever did see one.
[A] Good luck, had to strut me [D] through the racetrack, I did go.
[A] She [D] bet on one horse to win, and [E] she bet on another to show.
[A] The odds were in my favor, [D] yeah, I had them five to one.
[A] But now, dang, the wind came [E] around the track, and sure enough, we had one.
[A] Up on Cripple Creek, she [D] sent me my spring release.
She [E] tells me I don't have to speak.
She [F#m] depends on the [G] drunkard's dream, if I ever did see one.
So [A] I took home my old woman's wedding, [D] and I gave my little Bessie half.
[A] She [D] tore it up and threw it in my [E] face, just for a laugh.
[A] Now there's one thing in the whole [D] wide world I'd truly like to see.
[A] That's when I sweetly knew the man [E] who dipped a donut in my tea.
Up [A] on Cripple Creek, she [D] sent me my spring release.
She [E] tells me I don't have to speak.
She [C#] depends on the drunkard's [G] dream, if I ever did see one.
[A] Yo, lo, [D] lo, hee, hoo.
[A] Yo, lo, lo, [D] hee, hoo.
[A] Yo, lo, [D] lo, hee, hoo.
[E] Yo, lo, lo, hee, hoo.
[A] Yeah, me and my man, we were back at the shack.
[D] We had Spike Jones on the box.
[A] He said, I [D] don't like the way he sings, [E] but I love the way he talks.
[A] Now that just gave my heart a lover [D] to the bottom of my feet.
[A] And as I drugged another pug, [E] I knew my Bessie kept me beat.
Up [A] on Cripple Creek, she sent [D] me my spring release.
She [E] tells me I don't have to speak.
She [C#] depends on the drunkard's dream, [G] if I ever did see [G] one.
[A] Yeah, it's cold up in California, [D] and I know there's a freeze of cold.
[A] And [D] there's a living on the road [E] that's getting pretty old.
So [A] I guess I'll call up my blue mama, [D] tell her I'll be rolling in.
[A] But when I think about it, you know [E] I'd love to see my Bessie again.
[A] Up on Cripple Creek, she sent me my spring release.
She tells [E] me I don't have to speak.
She depends [C#] on the drunkard's dream, [G] if I ever did see one.
[A] E-o-l-o-h [D]-e-o-o.
[A] E-o-l-o [D]-h-e-o-o.
[A] E-o-l [D]-o-h-e-o-o.
[A] E-o-l-o [D]-h-e-o-o.
[A] [D] [A] E-o-l-o [D]-h-e-o [A]-o.
E-o [D]-l-o-h-e-o [A]-o.
E-o-l-o-h-e-o-o.
E-o-l-o-h-e [D]-o-o.
Ah, that's [G] a great tune, I could play that one all night.
I hope you guys enjoyed that [D#] one
