[D] Hi, I'm James from the Turner [F] Guitar Studio in the Duke and Warrenville and at TurnerGuitar.com and today
I'm going to be showing you how to play [Bb] the Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash.
This is going to be [B] an easier version of [D] it
So I'm not going to get into a lot of [Ebm] detail
I'm always going to do a simpler version of the strum pattern
[Eb] Just something that [G] you can kind of get into the song and get the structure [Ebm] down
so the main three [Am] chords we're going to be using [D] are G C and [Abm] D and
[Ab] The strum pattern is going to be
[D]
We'll just keep the same the whole time
It's mostly [E] just going to be the structure of the song so you have something to play along with if you're not used [Gbm] to
Keeping your hands steady for doing strum patterns.
We'll kind of get into that a little bit
[Bb] So we'll start off by [Abm] just going through that strum pattern itself [D] when you're [G] doing it
[E] Ideally, [G] you'll be doing your first down strum as a lower
strum kind of these top three strings and
Then you [B] do a second down up on your so your first [G] beat is one
You add or you do the down up those are going to be on the higher string
So I'm going to go through that for a little [Bb] bit just in a nice low speed see if you can kind of [Ebm] keep that pace
[G]
And now we'll try it at a faster speed [D] something closer to full [G] speed
So hopefully that's enough to kind of get you into that [D] zone with it
Just keep repeating [Fm] that if you have any issues [A] now
the chords themselves are going to be G and then C [G]
G and
[A] Then D and then G.
So you're [D] always going from a G
[Bb] To either the C or the [Eb] D and then back to the G through your verse
[Bb] The only tricky [A] thing is the timing in there so we end up doing the G for three
[Ab] repeats of that pattern [A] then we do the C [Abm] just for one and then we're [F] back to the G for
[B] Another four and then we repeat [G] the sections we get another three [Abm] G's before we get to the next chord
Which is your D.
So it's [Eb] a little tough if you're not [Ab] really sure
[F] How those beats play out so I'll link into [A] the description of the [Eb] video
Page with this written out about with the [C] lyrics and you can go through and write out
How many [Gb] beats are there and you can count that out while listening to the actual song or while
Listening to me play it later on I'm going to play [Ebm] everything together and sing it so you can kind of at least part of
It just so you can kind of [Bb] get that idea
So I'm gonna play through that verse right now and just give you that structure and we'll go through here a little bit slower
As well, we're gonna start with that [D] G
And then just be prepared for that C just the one section
So down down up on that C [G] back to the [A] G and then same thing with the D
[G]
[C] [G]
[D] [G]
And then we'd repeat the whole thing three on the G [C] C
[G]
And then another three on the D
[D] [G] G and that's [A] gonna be your basic [G] verse [Abm] now once we get into your chorus that changes a little bit [Ab] now
We get [D] into the the D then the C then [G] the G.
So here you're doing some other changes.
Make sure you're prepared [C] for those
Same [Bb] strum pattern.
It's just now we're on the [E] chords for a different length of time
So I'll just play through this again and [A] just count each [Abm] cycle through there as we go [F] and you can kind of write those [Ebm] in
on that page for yourself
[G]
[Bb] Here we [A] go
[D] [C]
[G] [D]
[C]
[G] And it's four more G's and
Then you do the next line which is one G one D two G's one more G two G's Two G's
And you'd be into your next section those last few would have been the [D] next part, but that's
the general structure [B] there, so it's
[Abm] four D's
[E] Two on the C two [Bb] on the G four D's two on the C two on the G
Then four on the G and then your next two lines are [D] one G one D two [E] G's one G [Ebm] one D two G's
So it's a little bit weird, but now I'm gonna play through it all together
[Bb]
I'll be [E] singing it [Eb] instead of
[Bb]
Counting and I'll be [B] doing it at about full speed
But you can at least get a better [Ebm] idea of how that all [F] structured and you can be watching my hands and all
[Bb] I'll go a little slower than [Ebm] at full speed just so you get a better [F] picture of what's going on
[D]
[G]
By wild desire
Valley
Fire
[D]
[G]
[D]
[G]
The ring will fire
the ring
So that should be good to at least get you started in that and [Ab] it's all just repeats from there
