How to play the classic M1 Piano Techno/House/Rave patterns chords
Start Jamming...
Hello guys, Paolo Sothomenia.
By public demand we're gonna talk about the famous house piano
chords, especially on the Korg M1 for techno and house of the early 90s.
[B] [A]
[E] [F#m] [B] [E]
[F#]
So the thing with
house piano pattern, rave, techno, Korg M1 especially piano pattern, is to have a percussive
style.
It's almost like you're playing percussion with your hands, following a specific pattern
usually that goes like this.
[N] So the pattern is percussive, kind of sort of like this.
Or, and of course when you're familiar with that percussive style, you want to apply it
with chords in your hands.
For example, let's analyze a piano pattern of a classic sonor
Mayuth, Praga Khan, injected with a poison.
The pattern goes something like [F#m] this.
[B] [A] [E]
[B] [A] [E]
[G#] As you can hear
it's very percussive.
So to analyze the chords it's an F sharp minor, it would [F#m] go something like
[B]
[A] [E]
and [A#] then you give it that percussive pattern and it becomes [F#m] this.
[B] [E] [F#m]
[B] [E]
And then you add a little bit
of arrangement.
[F#m] [B] [A]
[E] [F#m] [B] [E]
[F#]
[F#m] [B] [A] [E]
[F#m] [B] [E]
[F#]
[G#] All right another example from one of the bands that I loved in my youth, I love
this band so much, D.Light and their album War Click and they use this technique with the Korg
M1 piano in their song War Click from this from that album.
Let's check it out.
All right in that
song the percussive pattern goes like this.
[B]
And the chords [G]
are [C]
[Dm]
[C]
[G] [A#]
[G]
[F]
in chord format, [C]
[Dm] [C]
[G] [A#]
[G] [F]
add [G#] some arrangement.
[G] [C]
[C] [G] [A#]
[G] [F] [G] [F]
[G] [C]
[Dm] [G] [A#]
[F] [F]
[G]
[F] [C] [G]
[Dm] [C] [G]
[A#] [G]
[C] [N] Another classic example from the era, a little bit different, still percussive, DJ Bobo,
Somebody Dance With Me, which was really taken from Somebody's Watching Me by Rockwell.
Let's take a look at the Korg M1 piano pattern.
This one goes like
[C#] [A]
[B]
[F#m] [D]
[A] [F]
[F#m] [D]
[F]
and the chords are [F#m]
add [D]
[C#] [F]
[D#] some arrangement.
[F#m]
[D] [A]
[F] [F#m]
[D] [A]
[F] [F#]
[F#m]
[D] [A]
[F] [F#m]
[D] [A]
[F] [F#]
[G#]
And let's do one more, Black Box, Right On Time, a classic
again of my youth, Itzel Dance.
[F] All right this one is a little tricky to get right but it goes
something like this.
I'm going to slow it [Am] down [G] [F]
[Dm] [Am]
[G] [F]
[Dm] [Am] [G]
[F] [Dm] [Am]
[G]
[F] [Dm]
and the chords are in [Am]
[G]
[F]
[Am] [F]
[Dm] [Am] [F]
[Dm]
[A#] a full [Am] arrangement.
[G] [F]
[Am] [G] [F]
[G] [F]
[F] [Am] [F] [Dm]
[Am] [A] [F]
[G] [Am] [C] [F]
[G] [Am] [A] [F]
[G] [Am] [A] [F]
[Am] [G] [F]
[Am] [F]
[Dm] [Am] [F]
[F] [Am]
[Dm] [Am] [Em]
[F] [G] [Am] [A] All [F] [G] [Am] [A]
[F] [G] [Am] [C]
[F] [G] [C] right guys this concludes this quick overview of the classic early 90s Korg M1 but not only
Korg M1, other synthesizers were used with a similar percussive piano sound.
