Okay welcome to this video we're going to be looking at Stormy Monday we're
going to look at the chords first okay and we're gonna make another video we're
gonna look at Dickie Betts solo and we'll do two of each 12 bar solo.
So this is part
of a 10 series collection of blues songs if you learn these blues songs you are
going to be an amazing blues guitar [G] player.
Right so basically the form of
the song starts with an intro [F] which is a little [Dm] triad [F] this is a triad with a
flat 7 [Gm] and 9 and a 5th and we're going to start second finger on [E] the D string
[F] third fret first finger on the second fret G string [Dm] third finger on the B
string [Bb] third fret it's very important you get these fingers [G] right because we're
going to be sliding up and [Dm] down with them.
Okay so first of all we have this
kind of little stabs [Dbm] [Dm]
[Ebm] what that is is we're gonna [C] do three stabs on the [Dm] third
fret you
[Fm] come down to second [Dbm] fret [Dm] [Ebm]
[Cm] and then we're gonna put our pinky on [Bbm] the B
and E strings on the sixth fret [E] so it sounds like [D] this and
[Dbm] [Dm] [Eb] [Bb]
[Ebm] [Dm]
[Ebm] [Bb] [Dm]
[G] then we're gonna do
[D] the this is a D augmented chord because it has a root a third [Bb] a sharp five and a
root okay so the way we do [N] that is third finger here fifth fret fourth fourth
fret with the second finger on the D string and then we're barring with the
first finger the G and B strings [E] on the third [D] fret.
[F] Now when we come back got
just before the first beat we're going to go [Em]
[Dm] so when we [Em] go up it forms another
[C] chord it forms a root a major [Ab] third and a 13th interval [Em]
so it's like a G13 [C] so
it's really [F] nice [Em] [F] now [G] [E] you can do the two ways you can slide up from the third to
the fifth fret you can pick [F] here [Em] [Dm] you [Em]
[F] can do a hybrid where you pick the the D
string and [N] then with your plectrum and then your third so your second and third
fingers on the G and B so it sounds [F] like this [Em]
[Dm] and [Em] [Dm]
[Eb] [Dm]
[G] [Dm]
then we're going to do [E] this
pattern here for the C9 the second bar we're on a C9 chord okay C9 [C] chord I'm
using second finger on the A string third fret and then first finger on the
D string second fret third finger I'm [Gm] barring this you can do that you can bar
it [Am] [E]
and you can just be lazy [Am] and [D] go like that okay [Am]
[E] because here on the on the [C] on
the on the from the A [Gm] string to do that little rhythm motif [Am] we only have to [E] use
one finger across the G B and E on the third [Am] fret [Gm] [Am] okay [E]
[Dm] [Am]
we're [Gm]
[C] going to come back
to the G [Dm]
okay [Ebm] [D]
[Dbm] so if we look at the third bar what's happening on the third
bar [Dm] is we're doing two beats G7 [Bm] and then we do third fourth beats of that third
[Ebm] bar on G7 G sharp 7 so [G] we're going up it's like [Ab] 1 [G]
2 [Ab] [E] 3 so [Dm] be 1 2 [Ebm]
3 4
[Dm]
[Em] [Eb] [Ebm]
[Dm]
[Ebm] [Dm]
[Db] [Ebm] okay so after we come back down that's [G]
[Dm] [D] [Dm] [Am]
a really cool [N] little thing I'm this is
really get that [Ebm] down 1 3 4 [Dm]
1 [Eb] 2 [A] and again you could use your it might he might
just be [Dm] doing that see I [G]
think it's [A] there on the third fret you know [Dm] [Ebm] [Dm] [E] [Gm]
[Dm] [Em]
okay
and then we're gonna go [Eb]
[Dm] okay
[Ebm] [G] [F]
[Gm] [Am] [Gm]
[G]
now I'm G [Am] a minus 7 [Bm] B minus 7 [Bbm] B flat [Am] minus 7 a
minus 7 for one bar
[Cm] okay [N] I'm sure where we how we get to that chord so let's
just look at this this run up now I the way I do it is I put my thumb over the
the [G] fingerboard if you've got you know hands if you enable you to do that if
not you can just do that okay and then put your second finger and that's your
G7 chord remember [C] not to strum that note [A] because it won't sound [G] very nice
[E] the way again I [G] use my thumb am I my you know get into the habit of using your
fingers as well as your pleasure [Dbm] and then I here we come [Am] here now you can see
that I'm not doing that shape it sounds [E] sounds wrong for this song [Am] I think in [E] my
opinion [Am] I'm just doing yeah [C] this hybrid or you want to use your thumb and fingers
[Bm] down [Bb]
to the B flat [Am]
[G] so these are all two beats per bar 1 2 [Am] 3 [Bm] 4 1 2 [Bbm]
3 4 [Am] 1 2 3 4
this is where everyone gets it wrong because a lot of people [Ab] say it's what
happens after that a minor 7 is it's a B flat 7 [A] or a C minor 7 or this or that
so I'm gonna show you how we're gonna listen to the bass [G] line if [Am]
[Bm] [Bbm]
[Am]
[Eb]
[Dm] [Eb]
we follow the
bass line actually it's the E flat there [D] and it's an [Eb] E flat major it's that shape
there and we do that for one [C] bar
[Eb] 1 2 3 4 [E]
[C] [Dm] [Eb] I [C] think one of the [D] guitarists [Eb] is doing
something like that there it's [C] like the C [Eb] minor triad there
[C] [D] [Eb] [C]
[Db] [Eb] [D]
[Eb] [Db] [D] [Eb] maybe he's doing that
but that's basically the shape because in the bass place playing the E flat we're
playing it kind of a C minor 7 on top
[G] [Am] so you go 1 2 3 [Eb] 4 1 2 3 [G] 4 to G
[E] [G]
[D]
[Am] [Cm]
[Eb]
[G]
[Gm]
C9 [G] G7 [D]
so
[G] [C] [Db] [D]
that's
basically all the [N] chords of the songs it's if I just go through it [E] and I count the bars
and then we can see what's going on [G] here so we've got G 2 [Em] 3 4 [Gm] 1 C 2 3 [Am] [G] 4 1 to G [Ab] to G sharp
7 [G] to G 2 3 [E] 4 and C 9 2 3 [Am]
[C] 2 [Gm]
3 4 to [G] G7 to [Am] A minor [Bm] B minor [Bbm]
B flat minor [C] to A [Am] minor 2 3 4 then we go [Eb] to E flat major 2 3 [G] 4 to G7
[C] [E]
[G] [Em] then C9 [Db] [D] G7.
[G]
[E] Okay so they're the correct chords for Stormy Monday Blues by the Ormond Brothers
we're going to come back and we're going to learn we're going to learn the solo by Dickie
Bentz but I hope you enjoyed that this is part of a 10 blues song series [Am] that's going to make
you an amazing blues guitarist so please subscribe and see you soon see you on the
going to look at the chords first okay and we're gonna make another video we're
gonna look at Dickie Betts solo and we'll do two of each 12 bar solo.
So this is part
of a 10 series collection of blues songs if you learn these blues songs you are
going to be an amazing blues guitar [G] player.
Right so basically the form of

[F] Now when we come back got
just before the first beat we're going to go [Em]
[Dm] so when we [Em] go up it forms another
[C] chord it forms a root a major [Ab] third and a 13th interval [Em]

it's really [F] nice [Em] [F] now [G] [E] you can do the two ways you can slide up from the third to

[F] can do a hybrid where you pick the the D

fingers on the G and B so it sounds [F] like this [Em]
[E] the way again I [G] use my thumb am I my you know get into the habit of using your
fingers as well as your pleasure [Dbm] and then I here we come [Am] here now you can see
that I'm not doing that shape it sounds [E] sounds wrong for this song [Am] I think in [E] my

to the B flat [Am]

[G]

_ _ [Ebm] _ [Dm] _ _ _ _ _
[Ebm] _ _ [Bb] _ _ _ [Dm] _ _ _
_ [G] _ then we're gonna do
[D] the _ _ this _ _ _ _ is a D augmented chord because it has a root a third _ _ [Bb] a sharp five and a
root okay so the way we do [N] that is third finger here fifth fret fourth _ _ fourth
fret with the second finger on the D string and then we're barring with the
first finger the G and B strings [E] on the third [D] fret. _ _ _ _
_ _ [F] Now when we come back got
just before the first beat we're going to go [Em] _
_ [Dm] _ _ so when we [Em] go up it forms another
[C] chord it forms a root _ _ a major [Ab] third _ and a _ 13th _ interval [Em]
so it's like a _ _ G13 _ [C] so
it's really [F] nice [Em] _ _ [F] _ now [G] _ _ [E] you can do the two ways you can slide up from the third to
the fifth fret you can pick [F] here [Em] _ _ [Dm] you _ _ [Em] _ _
[F] _ _ can do a hybrid where you pick the _ _ the _ D
string and [N] then with your plectrum and then your _ third so your second and third
fingers on the G and B so it sounds [F] like this _ [Em] _
[Dm] _ and _ [Em] _ [Dm] _ _ _
[Eb] _ _ [Dm] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [G] _ [Dm] _ _ _ _
then we're going to do [E] this
pattern here for the C9 the second bar we're on a C9 chord okay C9 [C] chord I'm
using second finger on the A string _ _ _ _ third fret and then first finger on the
D string second fret third finger I'm [Gm] barring this you can do that you can bar
it _ [Am] _ [E] _
and you can just be lazy [Am] and [D] go like that okay [Am] _
[E] _ _ because here on the on the [C] on
the on the from the A [Gm] string to do that little rhythm motif [Am] _ _ we only have to [E] use
one finger across the G B and E on the third [Am] fret [Gm] _ _ [Am] okay _ [E] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [Dm] _ [Am] _
we're _ _ _ _ _ [Gm] _ _
_ [C] going to come back
to the G [Dm] _ _ _
_ okay _ [Ebm] _ _ _ [D] _
_ [Dbm] so if we look at the third bar what's happening on the third
bar [Dm] is we're doing two beats _ _ _ _ G7 [Bm] and then we do third fourth beats of that third
[Ebm] bar _ _ on _ G7 G sharp 7 so [G] we're going up it's like _ [Ab] _ 1 [G] _
_ _ 2 [Ab] _ [E] 3 so [Dm] be 1 _ 2 [Ebm] _
3 _ 4
[Dm] _ _ _
_ [Em] _ _ _ _ [Eb] _ [Ebm] _ _
_ _ _ [Dm] _ _ _ _ _
[Ebm] _ [Dm] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [Db] [Ebm] okay so after we come back down _ _ that's _ _ [G] _
_ _ _ [Dm] _ _ [D] _ [Dm] _ [Am] _
_ a really cool [N] little thing I'm this is
really get that [Ebm] down 1 3 _ _ _ 4 [Dm] _
1 _ [Eb] 2 [A] _ _ and again you could use your _ _ it might he might
just be [Dm] doing that see _ I _ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _
_ think it's [A] there on the third fret you know [Dm] _ _ [Ebm] _ [Dm] _ [E] _ _ _ [Gm] _
_ _ _ _ _ [Dm] _ _ [Em] _
okay
and then we're gonna go _ [Eb] _
_ _ _ _ [Dm] okay _ _
_ _ [Ebm] _ [G] _ _ _ _ [F] _
[Gm] _ _ _ _ _ _ [Am] _ [Gm] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _
now I'm G _ [Am] _ a minus 7 _ [Bm] B minus 7 [Bbm] _ B _ flat [Am] minus 7 _ a
minus 7 for one bar _
_ _ [Cm] _ _ _ okay [N] I'm sure where we how we get to that chord so let's
just look at this this run up now I the way I do it is I put my thumb over the
the [G] fingerboard _ _ _ _ if you've got you know hands if you enable you to do that if
not you can just do that okay and then put your second finger _ and that's your
G7 chord remember [C] not to strum that note [A] because it won't sound [G] very nice _ _ _ _
_ _ [E] the way again I [G] use my thumb am I my you know get into the habit of using your
fingers as well as your pleasure _ _ [Dbm] and then I here we come [Am] here _ _ now _ you can see
that I'm not doing that shape it _ _ sounds [E] sounds wrong for this song [Am] I think _ in [E] my
opinion [Am] I'm just doing _ _ yeah _ _ [C] _ this hybrid or you want to use your _ _ thumb and fingers
[Bm] _ _ down _ _ _ [Bb] _
_ _ _ to the B flat [Am] _ _
[G] so these are all two beats per bar 1 2 _ [Am] _ 3 _ [Bm] 4 _ 1 2 [Bbm] _ _
3 4 [Am] _ 1 _ 2 _ 3 4
this is where everyone gets it wrong because a lot of people [Ab] say it's what
happens after that a minor 7 is _ _ it's a B flat 7 [A] or a C minor 7 or this or that
_ so I'm gonna show you how we're gonna listen to the bass [G] line _ _ _ _ _ _ if _ [Am] _ _ _ _ _ _
[Bm] _ _ _ _ _ _ [Bbm] _ _
_ _ _ _ [Am] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [Eb] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [Dm] _ _ [Eb] _
we follow the
bass line actually it's the E flat there [D] _ and it's an [Eb] E flat major it's that shape
there _ and _ _ _ we do that for one [C] bar _ _ _ _
_ _ [Eb] _ 1 _ 2 _ _ 3 4 _ [E] _
_ [C] _ [Dm] _ [Eb] _ I [C] think one of the [D] guitarists [Eb] is doing
something like that there _ it's [C] like the C [Eb] minor triad there _
[C] _ [D] _ [Eb] _ _ _ _ _ [C] _
[Db] _ [Eb] _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
_ [Eb] _ _ _ [Db] _ [D] [Eb] maybe he's doing that
_ but that's basically the shape because in the bass place playing the E flat we're
playing it kind of a C minor 7 on top _
_ [G] _ [Am] so you go 1 _ 2 _ _ 3 _ [Eb] 4 _ 1 2 _ 3 _ [G] 4 to G _ _ _
_ [E] _ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _
_ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [Am] _ _ _ _ [Cm] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [Eb] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [G] _
_ _ _ _ [Gm] _ _ _
C9 _ _ [G] _ G7 _ [D]
so _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[G] _ _ [C] _ _ [Db] _ [D] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ that's
basically all the [N] chords of the songs it's if I just go through it [E] and I count the bars
and then we can see what's going on [G] here so we've got G _ 2 _ _ [Em] 3 4 _ [Gm] _ 1 C 2 _ _ 3 [Am] _ _ [G] 4 1 to G [Ab] to G sharp
7 [G] to G _ _ 2 3 _ [E] 4 and C 9 _ _ 2 _ 3 [Am] _ _
_ [C] 2 _ [Gm] _ _ _
3 4 to [G] G7 _ _ to [Am] _ A _ minor [Bm] _ B minor _ _ [Bbm] _
B flat minor _ [C] to A [Am] minor 2 3 _ 4 then we go [Eb] to E flat major _ 2 _ 3 _ [G] 4 to _ G7
_ _ _ [C] _ _ _ [E] _ _
_ [G] _ _ [Em] then C9 [Db] [D] G7. _
_ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
[E] _ Okay so they're the correct chords for Stormy Monday Blues by the Ormond Brothers
