How To Play Peter Gunn Theme Duane Eddy (minor) Henry Mancini (major) On Guitar @EricBlackmonGuitar chords
Start Jamming...
Alright, now [Bb] here's an easy TV theme for you [B] guys who remember this one.
This is the theme from the detective show, Peter Gunn.
Now, I don't think the show was all that great, but the theme was kind of [F] cool.
It's all done on the E string, so it's an easy beginner [B] piece.
[E] We're going to be picking just like that.
Picking the E string just like that, repeatedly.
1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and.
Okay, [E] so that takes care of the right hand.
[B] Now let's move in a little bit closer.
We're only going to be using the first five frets of the guitar.
Okay, [N] so we've got
We're going to put our hands in second position.
Put our hand in second position on the fretboard.
And the notes are E, [E] open E twice, F sharp, [Gb]
then back to E, [G] G, back to [E] E, and then A [A] at the fifth fret, and then [G] back to G.
Like that.
[Eb] So basically you're repeating the E, open E string, [Ab] and you're tapping on the other notes.
[Bb] Okay, so we've got [Gb] second fret, F sharp, third fret, [G] G, and fifth fret, [Am] A, all on the E string.
[E] So it's
[Gb] [G]
[E] [G]
[E] E, E, F sharp, [Gb]
[E] E, [G] G, [E] E, [A] A, G.
[G]
That's all it is.
Now, [Bb] sometimes I'm doing a little bending, which gives it a little flavor, so it [E] goes like this.
Bending on your G string.
Notice the only bending is [G] on the G string, and that's what gives it that flavor.
The reason why it gives it that cool sound is G [B] is your minor to E.
You [E] open E, [G] G, [E] flat third, so it gives you the minor sound.
That's that rock sound.
So [B] remember that relationship.
E, [Ab] G, [Eb] minor.
Okay, this gives you the E [C] minor.
Okay, so let's [E] play that one more time.
[Em] [E]
[A] You work on that [B] a little while, [Bb] you'll gain speed.
Just take your time, go [C] slow, play it correctly, [E] and just keep playing individually.
Alright, that's Peter Gunn.
