Hello and welcome to another Boogie Bill How to Play It, the song Lying Eyes, Eagles 1975.
So today I'm going to show you a little bit about the setup.
I have what I call standard setups that I've recently developed.
And this is the way they work.
I have a tone, in this case guitar, [C] acoustic guitar.
It's all the way across the keyboard.
I have another tone, it's a guitar, but it only goes to the middle.
It's split just in the upper parts.
So it's [Gm] not down here, because what's down here, I can also play a bass tone.
[Ab] Now remember I said I also have a guitar all the way across.
If I turn that on, [C]
that [Ab] tone is actually the [C] stock setup.
[Am] This other [G] tone, [C] I'll show you, this one that's split is lower by an octave.
So I have kind of a dual octave [G] thing going on here.
And of course, you can hear this [D] has [G] the guitar also with the bass.
I think it sounds good.
So now that I've got you thoroughly confused, I have a drum beat of 81 on the tempo on this song.
The other thing you need to know if you're starting out, and eventually this kind of comes just natural to the way you play I guess,
is the left hand hits the note first in the gear.
And this comes in on beat 2.
In this case, I usually kind of alter root, fifth.
[D] [C] [Am]
[D]
[G] [D] [C]
[Am] [C] [G]
Well I think that sounds pretty good.
The trick of course is just to be able to alternate [Ebm]
quickly between your triads.
[Am] I'm just playing [G] standard chords.
These are versions of G, then there's a G major [Bm] 7, [D]
and a [C] C.
Then it goes up to [Am] A minor, down to B, [D]
back to G again.
[G] [D] G major 7, [C] C.
[Am] Then A minor again, [C] C.
[G]
And that's basically every verse.
And this song actually has three long verses.
Then there is the chorus, which I like to turn on my harmonizer to play to.
[A] And that again is [G] a G.
[C] [G]
Then it goes E minor, [Em] E minor, [Bm] B minor, A [C] minor, [D] D, then [G] G.
[Bm] So you make [C] C, [A] A, [Am] A minor, [D]
[G] G.
So, I would advise you strongly to go get the chords.
They are everywhere on the internet.
Cowboylyrics.com is one of them.
But practice just with the chords and of course your bass [D] before [G] you do [D] the stand.
[G] Now when you get to that chorus, it goes pretty quick between the chords.
A lot of times I just do one.
Maybe I'm not bothering with the fifth, I'll [C] just [G]
hit the root.
So I'm going to give the first verse, the chorus, and then the outro a run through so you can kind of hear what I came up with.
So 1, 2, 3, 4.
City girls [D] just seem to [C] find out early How [Am] to open doors just a [D] smile
A [G] rich old man, [D] she won't have to [C] worry [Am]
Just a falling [C] lace, a going [G] style
Late at night [D] a maid's old house [C] gets lonely Gets [Am] every point of refuge [D] as it's prized
And [G] it breaks her heart [D] to think that [C] her love is only Given [Am] to a man [C] with hands as cold as [D] ice
[G] So she tells him she must [D] go out for [C] the evening [Am] Comfort an old friend [D] feeling down
But [G] she knows where [D] she's going and [C] she's leaving Set it for that cheap [G] side of town
You can't hide [C] your [G] lying eyes And [Em] your smiles
[Bm] [A] up in the [D] sky
But [G] by [D] now you [C] [A] realize There ain't no [D] way to hide those lying [G] eyes
There ain't no way to [D] hide your [G] lying eyes Honey, you [D] can't hide those [G] lying eyes
So there you have a version, at least my interpretation, of the song Lion Eyes Eagles 1975.
One of the greatest pop country hits ever.
So I hope you enjoyed that and we'll see you again
