Hey everybody George September here.
Hope you're having a wonderful day.
I've got a really nice tune for you today
It's a Paul Simon song called Kodachrome now in this song
There are a lot a lot of instruments, but I've seen Paul Simon do it on an acoustic guitar and it totally blew me away
So I learned it many years back, and I've played it
Played it to death.
I've played it in bands.
I've played it acoustically.
I've played it at campfires open mics
Whatever
It's not an easy song so it's more for our intermediate to advanced players doesn't mean a beginner can't learn it
But it has a lot going on
What I'll do is I'll break the song down for you
So you can see what it sounds like and looks like and we can take it from there.
I'm not a vocalist
But you'll hear me singing slightly in the [F] background just so that you have an idea of the [E] melody
song starts in E
And it basically goes something like this when I think back to all the crap [A] I [C] learned in high [Am] school
[C#m] [G] [F#] [B] It's a wonder I [E] can't think at all [A] and [B] [E] though my lack of education
[Am] Has hurt me much
[C#m] [E]
[F#m] I [B] can read the [E] writings on the wall
[A]
[C#m] quarter
Give [F#m] [Bm] us those [E] nice bright colors [A] give us the screen [F#m] the summer
Makes you [Bm] feel like [E] all the [A] world's [C#m] sunny
[G] [F#m] [Bm] I've got an [E] icon camera love to [A] take a
[F#m] Photograph [Bm] so mama [E] don't take my coat
[A] [C#m] [F#m] [B] Chrome away
If I speed it [E] up back to the call girls
[E]
[A] [F#] Brought [B] them all together [E] for
[A] [B] they [E] never match my sweet
[A]
[E] [F#] [G] [B] [Dm] [E]
[B] [C#m] [F#m] [Bm] [D] [E]
[A] [F#m] [Bm] Oh
[E]
[F#m] I [D] got a 9, I [E] call him a [A] lover too.
[F#m] [Bm] I don't take [E] my code from [A] away.
[G] [E] [G] [F#m] [B]
So basically what's [G] going on here is, it starts in an E shaped chord.
In fact, [E] I look back to all the [Am] human eyes.
[A] So you go in [C#] A [A]
together, [C] [A] [E] [F#m] F sharp minor.
[B] [F] [E]
[Am] [Am] [E]
[F#] [F#m] [B] [E]
[A] [B] And then of course, [A] it's A, [C#m] C sharp minor, [F#m] F sharp minor.
[A] [C#m] [F#m]
It goes [Bm] to a B minor, [E] E, [A]
A, [G] [F#m] F sharp minor, [Bm] E minor, [E] E.
And quickly it [C#m] goes.
[F#m] [A] [F#m]
[E] [G] [Am]
[E] So [F#m] [B] [E]
[A] [B] that's the progression right there.
And then the [Am] chorus again.
I call the [C#m] crow.
[F#] [F#m] [Bm] Give us those [E] nice bright colors.
Give us [A] those [G] green [F#] sun.
[F#m] Make [Bm] you feel like all [E] the world [Em] is a [C#m] sunny [F#] day.
Oh yeah.
I [Bm] got a [E] 9, I call him a lover [A] too.
[F#m] [D] I [E] don't take my code from [A] away.
[C#m] [F#m] [B]
And basically repeats the verse and the chorus [A#] again.
There's a lot going on.
It's changing really, really quick.
The song's never the [E] same.
Keep in mind, when you're playing your E chord, you'll want to add that pinky for that seventh.
Now if you don't want [Am] to do the, [C#m] [G] you can [D#m] just do this.
[E] I think back to all the crap I learned in, just play an A chord.
High [A] school.
[E] [F#] [B] It's a wonder I [E] didn't.
[A] So you don't have to, [G] but it sounds really cool.
[Am] Again, you're just basically playing an A shape.
[A] Both of these together.
[C#]
[A] [G#] [E] [G#] [E] [F#m] [N]
[A] [C] [A] [A] [C] [E] [F#m]
[D#m] Fantastic song to learn.
Nice changes.
Great tune if you're a vocalist.
I can't [F] get enough of people who sing really well.
I wish I could sing.
There's people who do it really well.
If you're a singer and you're also playing guitar, this song's got a really robust melody.
It's full.
It's got beautiful changes.
It's got the minor chords, which gives it that kind of dark tone, but [N] melancholy feel kind of thing.
So I wish you a lot of success with this tune.
Just practice it.
It's not hard.
It looks harder than it is.
But once you get the chords and the changes, it should come pretty easy to you.
So I hope you enjoyed this lesson.
Give me a thumbs up if you did, and I'll see you very
