[Ab] In this lesson, we're gonna learn
I Want You Back by the Jackson 5.
We're gonna learn all the open position chords
you will need to jam out on this Motown classic.
We're gonna talk about octaves,
scratching, and quick chord changes.
The sections we're gonna go over
are the intro, verse, chorus, and hook.
So put your capo on the first fret, and let's get started.
In the intro, we're gonna talk about octaves
and 16th notes.
So the first octave shape I want you to do
is on the A and the G, 11th fret and [B] 13th fret.
Don't play anything [Ab] except for those strings,
so everything else is muted.
So the second shape you can play is on the G and on the E,
so 13 and 16.
Same thing, only those two strings.
[F] Let's take a look at that from another angle.
So here's our first shape and our second [Fm] shape.
[Ab] So let's start right here.
Get comfortable with the 16th notes first.
One E and a, two E and a,
three E and a, four E and a.
Now let's add some rhythm.
Keep in mind, he doesn't keep the same rhythm throughout,
so you have a little bit of room to improvise,
but I'm gonna give you an idea of what's being played.
So you're gonna do one E and a,
two E and a,
three E and a,
four E and.
Let's do that same thing up the octave.
One E and a,
two E and a,
three E and a,
four E [Db] and.
[Ab] So let's speed that up just a little bit.
Here we go.
One E and a, two E and a,
three E and a, four E and a.
Changing octaves.
One E and a, two E and a,
three E and a, four E and [Bb] a.
Remember, you have a lot of room
with this one to [Db] mess around,
but that gets you through the first part of the intro.
