How you doing?
I'm going to do a tutorial on Hey Joe by Jimi Hendrix.
This is an old Stratocaster and I have no Marshall Stax behind me,
so I've got a bit of a revised version that I play on the acoustic guitar.
So I try to keep some of the lead lines and some of the fun [G#] stuff in it
and give [A] it a good groove that you can follow on one guitar.
So I'm going to play a little bit in the first verse
and I'll come back and break it down [G] a little bit.
[E]
[G] [E]
[D] [C]
[G] Hey Joe,
[D] I see [A] where you're going
[G] With [B] that gun in your [E] hand
[D]
[E] [D]
[C] [G] Hey Joe,
[D] I [A] see where you're going
[G] With [E] that gun in your hand
[D]
[C] I'm [G] going down to shoot my old lady
[D] You [G] know I [A] caught her messing around [Em] with [E] another man
[Em] I'm [E] [D]
[C] [G] going down to shoot my old lady
[D] You [G] know I [A] caught her [E] messing around, messing around town
[D] And then it goes around and around.
That's it.
I mean, that's it.
So let's go through the intro and then I'll show you the chords.
So what we're doing here is basically we're playing two strings.
We're playing the G and the B and the E string.
[G] And I'm only fretting the B string, so if you can see that clear enough.
And I'm doing it on the third fret, so I'm going to go third, fifth.
So, a bit of a hammer on.
So it's a hammer on the fifth, back to the third.
[Bm] And then you go on your G string with this finger and you go [A]
[Em]
slide down.
[Bm] G string, fourth [G] fret to second fret, open.
And then [Em] the D string on the second [Gm] fret.
[E] [G]
[E]
And then you hit an open E string while you're getting into your chord.
And then the high end of the E string, just like the high three strings.
And then you're going [F#m] to keep that E formation.
You're going to go, you don't need this finger, so you're only going to hit these three strings.
And you're going to go on the fourth fret.
It's almost like an E minor chord.
But it doesn't matter because you're only playing the fifth.
And it's fourth, fifth fret.
[Em] [F#] [Em]
So [F#] it's [Em] slide up, low E, low E, [F#]
[E] [Bm] [Em]
[F#] [Bm] [E]
low E, high again.
And then, [A] [B] [D]
so you're hitting the A string on the second fret, [B] opening it up to the D.
[D]
And that's it.
So the whole [G] thing is.
[E]
[Bm] [Em] [F#m] [E]
[Bm] [D]
And then the chords are [C] C,
[G] G,
[D] D, so [G] where you [Am] going?
To [Em] an A, I play my A [A] as a bar.
And I put this little, just a hammer on on the third fret on the G string.
Going [E] in your hand.
And the same riff comes [D] again.
[E]
[D]
[C] So that's a little bit [A] different.
It's a [B] hammer on the second [D] fret of the A string.
[C] So.
[G] Hey Joe, [D] I said [A] where you going [Em] with that [E] gun in your hand?
[D] [E]
[D] [C]
[G] Hey Joe.
Same, it [C] just goes over and over and rolls around and that's about it.
I put a little bit of a seventh chord in there occasionally.
So, [G] hey [D] Joe,
[A] heard you [B] shot your woman [E] down.
[D] Or [E] even, heard you shot your woman down.
[Em] This chord is kind of neat.
Jimi Hendrix uses it a lot.
It's an old blues chord.
It's like an E7 something, I don't know.
Anyways, so you've got your open E.
So on the key of E, [Am] it's on the seventh.
You're going to [A#m] start on the [E] seventh fret with your second finger.
These are the notes basically right here.
You can see them quicker than I can [G] explain them to [E] you.
So it's kind of like a D7 chord up here with this extra finger.
[Em]
Alright.
Forget that.
Do this.
So that's it.
So [C] that would be in.
So, [G]
hey Joe, [D]
[A] I heard you shot [Em] your lady down.
[E]
[D] [G] That's the whole thing.
So, yeah, thanks for watching and check out my channel.
I've got lots of tutorials on there and a bunch of originals and covers and all kinds [E] of fun stuff.
So check it out and if you see something you like, click the box and like it and that would be great.
Thanks guys.

[D]

[E]
[Bm] [Em] [F#m] [E]
