Hi there, I'm Andy Healier for 9to42, and today I'm going to teach you how to play
Hold My Girl, the new song by George Ezra.
The verse sounds like this.
[F] [Eb] [Gm]
[F] [Bb]
[F] [Eb] [Gm]
[F] [Bb] Okay, we're going to learn the whole song.
First thing we need to do though, put a capo on the third fret.
Right, the first chord that we need is a G chord.
We're going to play it, sometimes you play it with just one finger.
We're going to play it with two fingers on the E and the B string.
So little finger on E3, third finger on B3, second finger on the E3 nearest to your face,
and then your first finger on A2.
So that's a G chord, that's the first chord.
The second chord is G slash F sharp.
So all we need to do is take the second finger off and move our first finger up a string
to the top string so it's on E2.
And leave the other two fingers down where they were before.
So you've got G, [F] G slash F sharp, [Eb] and then it's going to go to a C chord, which is just
B1 with your first finger, [G] second finger on D2, [Eb] and your third finger on A3.
And you're going to play from the A string down.
So that's C.
[F] And we're also going to need an E minor chord in a sec.
But the [Bb] intro just does those first three chords.
It's going to go G, [F] G slash F sharp, [Eb] then C.
Okay?
The G is for two beats, the F sharp is for two beats, and the C chord is for four beats.
So it goes like [Bb] this.
One, [F] two, three, [Eb] four, one, two, three, four.
And it's going to repeat that twice.
[Bb] So you go.
[F] [Eb] [Bb]
[F] [Eb]
[Bb] And that's the intro.
The rhythm into it, or the rhythm that we should play along to it, goes like this.
[Eb]
[Ab] So it's just go down, down, up, down, down, up, down, down, up, [Bb] down, up.
[Eb]
[Bb] Okay?
So it does that twice in the intro.
Then the verse starts by doing that.
[Eb] [G] And then it goes to E minor, which is just A2 and D2.
[Gm] Then G slash F sharp again.
[Bb]
Then back to G.
So the whole of the verse slowly sounds like this.
[Eb] [Gm]
[G] [Bb]
The rhythm I put on the end of that, on both the C chord and the [Bb] G chord, was down, down,
up, up, down, up.
So you get this.
The whole verse.
[Eb]
[Gm] [G] [Bb]
[Eb] [Gm]
[Bb] [G] Okay, so that's the verse.
That repeats round.
Then the bridge of the song is just going to go C for a bar, E minor for a bar, G for
a bar, and then D for two bars.
So you get C, [Eb]
[Gm] E minor, G, [Bb] D, [F] double bar of D.
[Ab] Okay, and that's the bridge of the song.
So just C for a bar, E minor for a bar, and then G for a bar, D for two bars.
Let's try it one more time.
One, two, three, [Eb] bridge.
[Gm] [Bb]
[F]
[G] And the chorus of the song is going to go G for two bars, D sus four for one [F] bar.
So D sus four is a D chord, which is your second finger on E2, first finger on G2, and
your third finger on B3.
But get D sus [Ab] four, we add our little finger onto [F] E3.
That's D sus four.
So it's going to do a D sus four for one bar, and then D for a bar.
So you get [Bb] G, G again, D sus [F] four, D, then E minor for two bars, and C for [Ab] two bars.
So the whole of the chorus sounds like this.
One, two, [Bb] three, four.
[F]
[Gm]
[Eb]
[G] And that just repeats.
And the only other bit is a middle eight, which is just going to do E minor for two
bars, C for two bars, E minor for two bars, and then D for two bars.
One, two, three, E minor.
[Gm]
C, [Eb]
E minor, [Gm]
D.
[F]
[G]
And that's the whole song.
So literally, you just go through, it does the intro, and then does verse, bridge, chorus,
verse, bridge, chorus, middle eight, back to the verse, and chorus.
And that's the whole song.
Well, hopefully you've liked this little lesson of mine.

Hi there, I'm Andy Healier for 9to42, and today I'm going to teach you how to play
Hold My Girl, the new song by George Ezra.
The verse sounds like this.
[F] _ _ _ [Eb] _ _ _ [Gm] _
_ [F] _ _ [Bb] _ _ _ _ _
_ [F] _ _ [Eb] _ _ _ [Gm] _ _
[F] _ _ [Bb] _ _ _ Okay, we're going to learn the whole song.
First thing we need to do though, put a capo on the third fret.
Right, the first chord that we need is a G chord.
We're going to play it, sometimes you play it with just one finger.
We're going to play it with two fingers on the E and the B string.
So little finger on E3, _ third finger on B3, second finger on the E3 nearest to your face,
and then your first finger on A2. _ _ _
So that's a G chord, that's the first chord.
The second chord is G slash F sharp.
So all we need to do is take the second finger off and move our first finger up a string
to the top string so it's on E2.
And leave the other two fingers down where they were before.
So you've got G, _ [F] G slash F sharp, [Eb] and then it's going to go to a C chord, which is just
B1 with your first finger, [G] second finger on D2, [Eb] and your third finger on A3.
And you're going to play from the A string down.
So that's C.
_ _ _ [F] And we're also going to need an E minor chord in a sec.
But the [Bb] intro just does those first three chords.
It's going to go G, _ [F] G slash F sharp, _ [Eb] then C.
_ _ Okay?
The G is for two beats, the F sharp is for two beats, and the C chord is for four beats.
So it goes like [Bb] this.
One, [F] two, three, [Eb] four, one, two, three, four.
And it's going to repeat that twice.
[Bb] So you go. _
_ [F] _ _ [Eb] _ _ _ _ [Bb] _
_ [F] _ _ [Eb] _ _ _ _
[Bb] And that's the intro.
The rhythm into it, or the rhythm that we should play along to it, goes like this.
_ _ [Eb] _ _ _ _
[Ab] So it's just go down, down, up, down, down, up, down, down, up, [Bb] down, up.
_ _ _ [Eb] _ _
_ _ _ [Bb] Okay?
So it does that twice in the intro.
Then the verse starts by doing that. _
_ _ [Eb] _ _ _ _ [G] And then it goes to E minor, which is just A2 and D2.
[Gm] _ _ Then G slash F sharp again.
[Bb] _
Then back to G. _ _ _
So the whole of the verse slowly sounds like this. _ _
_ _ _ [Eb] _ _ _ _ [Gm] _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ [Bb] _ _ _
_ _ The rhythm I put on the end of that, on both the C chord and the [Bb] G chord, was down, down,
up, up, down, up.
So you get this.
The whole verse.
_ _ _ _ _ [Eb] _ _ _
_ [Gm] _ _ _ [G] _ _ [Bb] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [Eb] _ _ _ [Gm] _ _ _ _
[Bb] _ _ _ _ _ [G] Okay, so that's the verse.
That repeats round.
Then the bridge of the song is just going to go C for a bar, E minor for a bar, G for
a bar, and then D for two bars.
So you get C, [Eb] _ _ _
[Gm] E minor, G, [Bb] _ D, _ [F] _ _ double bar of D. _ _ _
_ _ [Ab] Okay, and that's the bridge of the song.
So just C for a bar, E minor for a bar, and then G for a bar, D for two bars.
Let's try it one more time.
One, two, three, [Eb] bridge. _
_ [Gm] _ _ _ _ _ [Bb] _ _
_ _ [F] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [G] _ And the chorus of the song is going to go G for two bars, D sus four for _ _ one [F] bar.
So D sus four is a D chord, which is your second finger on E2, first finger on G2, and
your third finger on B3.
But get D sus [Ab] four, we add our little finger onto [F] E3. _
That's D sus four.
So it's going to do a D sus four for one bar, and then D for a bar.
So you get [Bb] G, _ _ _ G again, D sus [F] four, _ D, _ _ _ _ then E minor for two bars, and C for [Ab] two bars.
So the whole of the chorus sounds like this.
One, two, [Bb] three, four. _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [F] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [Gm] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [Eb] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [G] And that just repeats.
And the only other bit is a middle eight, _ which is just going to do E minor for two
bars, C for two bars, E minor for two bars, and then D for two bars.
One, two, three, E minor.
[Gm] _ _ _
_ _ _ C, [Eb] _ _ _
_ _ E minor, [Gm] _ _ _
_ _ _ D.
[F] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [G] _
And that's the whole song.
So literally, you just go through, it does the intro, and then does verse, bridge, chorus,
verse, bridge, chorus, middle eight, back to the verse, and chorus.
And that's the whole song.
