Hey guys, welcome to another episode [Abm] of This is How We Do It.
[Gb] [Abm] [Gb]
[Abm] [F] You may have guessed or already known that the song that I just played was an Irish folk song called the Drunken [G] Sailor.
The song was even featured on Muppets Treasure Island where Long John Silver was singing [Abm] it in the kitchen.
So now I'm going to zoom up and show you the fretboard.
So the chords that are played in this song are the A minor
and a chord that is sometimes [Dbm] known as the [Gb] Eagles G.
[Ab] You play an A minor exactly like an E major, just one [Abm] string over.
[Eb] Versus an E major.
So, [G] you play the A minor with your middle finger on the second fret of [Eb] the D,
[C] your [E] ring finger on the second fret [Abm] of the G,
[F] and your index finger on the second fret [B] of the B.
[G]
The Eagles G is played with your index finger on the second fret of [Bb] the A string,
[N] middle finger on the third [Gb] fret of the low E,
[N] your ring finger on the third fret of the B [Db] string,
[N] and your pinky on the third fret of the high [Gb] E.
[N] So the strumming pattern is the most complicated thing for me to explain because I change it so often.
But the best thing I can recommend doing is this.
[Eb] Down,
[N]
[E] so that's down, down, down, down, up, [Eb] down, down, down, down.
[Cm]
[Db] [Bb]
[Ab] And then through the transitions of the chords from going to the A minor to the G, to the Eagles G,
[Abm] you can just do a quick up-strum.
[Gb]
[Db] So with that basic strumming pattern, it's going to sound like this from the top.
[Abm] [Gb]
[Abm] [Gb] [Abm]
[Ab] All right guys, I hope you enjoyed today's guitar lesson.
