[G] [A] [Bm] Hi everyone, I'm Elijah D.
Welcome [A] to Music Greatness.
This is Head Hundred and today we're going to break down another song from Rex [Bm] Orange
County and this one is called Best Friend.
Sounds like this.

[B]
[G#m] [D]
[C#] There you go.
For the first part of the lesson, we're going to focus on the intro.
We're in the key of F sharp for this one and we start by playing F sharp major 7.
[F#] So that's octave F sharp on my left hand and my right hand plays F sharp major 7, C sharp,
F and A sharp.
So notice here I'm not playing the root.
I dropped the [Fm] root from my right hand chord and I'm simply playing the major 7th right
[F#] here in the middle.
Then next what I'm going to do is simply switch [Fm] this F, so the major 7th of my chord [F#] and play E [E] instead.
So the dominant 7.
And now I'm playing F sharp 7.
[F#]
Following that F sharp 7, I'm going [B] to play B major 7.
That's B and F sharp for my left hand.
Then A sharp, D sharp and F sharp again for my right hand.
Then I have a 2-5 progression.
So I'm going to go [F#] to the 2 of F sharp.
[G#] That's G sharp.
[G#m]
G sharp minor 7 to be precise.
G sharp and D sharp for my [G#] left hand.
Then F sharp, [F#] the 7th, [G#m] B, the minor 3rd and then D sharp, the 5th.
So that's the 2, G sharp minor 7.
And for the 5 [C#] I have C sharp 7 with a flat 9.
That's octave C sharp on my left hand.
Right hand plays [G#m] G sharp, B [G#]
and then natural [C#] D.
The flat 9 [G#m] sorry.
[D] [C#]
Then I'm going to go back to the very first chord of my [F#] progression.
So F sharp major 7 and following that F sharp major 7, I'm going to play F sharp 9.
Alright so if you noticed, I simply switched my F to an E and my A sharp to a G sharp.
[E]
The rest of [F#] the notes in the bottom are still the same.
[G#] Okay so you have [F#] F sharp major 7, then F sharp 9, going to B major 7 [B] again.
Then I have G sharp minor 7 again but this time [G#m]
I'm going to play it this way.
So now I have octave G sharp on my left [G#] hand and on my right I [G#m] still have F sharp, B and D sharp.
[A#] Then before ending the intro and playing the 5 chord, we have a quick passing [D] chord.
One half step above C sharp, that's D9, octave D left hand, F sharp, C and then E on my right.
[C#] And then shortly after that we have C sharp 9, octave C sharp, F, B and D sharp.
And that's how we're going to end this intro.
We can go through the chords again.
We start by playing F sharp major [F#] 7, then switch this F to an E to play F sharp 7 to B [B] major 7.
Then we have the 2 5, G sharp minor [G#m] 7 to C sharp 7 with a flat [C#] 9.
Going back to F sharp major [F#] 7, followed by F sharp 9 this time, B major [B] 7, G sharp minor [G#m] 7,
going to [D] D9 and ending on C sharp [C#] 9.
For the rhythm now, the pattern is pretty [F#] simple.
So I'm going to play the whole progression and count at the same time.
Alright?
