[G] [C] Hi, and welcome to my tutorial
1625 Jazz Easy [E] Walking Bass Lines
In this lesson we're using a four string bass
and the notes are tuned E, [A] A, [D] D, [G] G
or standard tuning
We're going to play 1625 by simply playing [C] this
[A] Those [D] [G]
[C] notes are C,
[A] A, [D] D, [G] and G
We're playing in the key of C major
and the C major scale is C, D, E, F, G, A, B
The 1625 notes in that key are C, [C] which is 1
[A] A, 6, [D] D is the second note, [G] and G is the fifth
Now we can play this [C] in any key by just moving it up and down the fretboard
referencing the root note
C is the root note in this key
[D] D would be the root note in the key of D
and you play it this [Bm] way
[E] [A]
So we're just playing this little box
[Db] D flat,
[Ab] [C] and so on
So we can play this in any key on any two strings
We could play it down here
[G] or [Bb] [G] the middle strings
[D] [B] or wherever we want to play it
Now we're going to start this very simply by playing half notes
Half notes are going to be counted [E] this way
[C] 1, 2, [A] 3, [D] 4
[G] [C]
[A] [D] [G]
Let's crank up our band in a box backing track and see how that [C] sounds
[A] [D]
[G] [Gm] [D]
[G] [C] [A] [D]
[G] [C] [A]
[G] Next, we're going to jazz it up a little bit by adding some leading tones
These leading tones for this one are going to be the note [Gb] before the note that we're going [C] to
or a half step before it
Say for instance we were going to C
We go to C [Db] sharp first [C] and then play that note
[A] If we go to an A, we'll play the note [Bb] before it
And [A] if we go to [D]
the D, we're going to play the note [Eb] before that one
[D]
Like that
[B] So we're going to play it this way
[C] C, the note before [Bb] A, [A] and then A
[E] The note before [Eb] D, and [D] then D
When we go to [Ab] G, we'll play the note before G
or one fret [G] ahead of it
Like that, it'll sound this [C] way
[Bb]
[Eb] [G] [Db]
[Bb] [D] [C]
Let's check and see what that sounds like with our backing track
For [D] [F]
[Gb] [D] [G] [Db]
[C] our next line, we're going to lead in ahead of the note Like this
[Ab] So [A] [Db] [Gb]
[G] [B] [C] what we're doing there is going to our C
And then we'll go [Ab] to A flat, and then [A] A
D [Db] flat, and then [D] D
[Gb] G flat, and [G] then G
It's [C] going to sound like this
[A] [D] [Gb]
[B] [Ab] [A] [D]
[C]
Let's check that out with our track
[A] [D]
[G] [C] [Ebm] [D]
[B] [C] [A] [D]
[Em] [C] [A] [C]
Alright, for our last line, we're going to mix the previous lines
So what we'll do is we'll go to C
And then we might [Bb] go above the next note
[A] Come down
[Eb] [D] And then this time around, we're going to go below the [Gb] note
[G] And [B]
[Cm] [Ab] then mix it
[A]
[D] [G] [Db]
[Bb] [A] [D] [Ab]
[Db] [C] And so we can come up with endless variations on that
Let's see what that sounds like with our track
[Bm] [D] [Am] [C]
[A] [Gbm] [B] [C]
[D] [G]
[A] [D] [G] [C]
[D] [G] [E]
[Eb] [D] Well alright, that's 1625 Jazz Easy Walking Bass Lines
