How To Play 96 Tears / Ninety Six Tears on the electronic keyboard chords
Start Jamming...
Hello and welcome to another Boogie Bo how to play it on your electronic keyboard.
The song today 96 tears [Am]
1966 by question mark and the Mysterians.
They actually from Michigan only about a hundred miles north of me I guess.
He always wore sun shades and still does today.
Yeah and look at the lead sheet
that I have my own personal lead sheet of course.
The first thing you're gonna
notice is there a lot of G and C and the song is in the key of G and really
switches from to the four chord and back the whole way through so it's just G C G
C except for the chorus it does go to E minor for a little while.
The first thing
I'm gonna look at here is a little intro starts with a G [Gm] now [C] [Gm]
this G the high G
there is also held in several parts of the song I don't know how they managed
to do that I think they use another keyboard when they record it or
something.
The other thing you're gonna see on my sheet here is I have RH 2 RH 1
that means right hand riff 2 or right hand riff 1 and you'll need to look at
the song listen to it and mark your own notes if you want to try to get this
right but the right hand riff 1 [Gb] okay is simply for the G [G] chord you're playing G
and the third root.
Usually it's like eight [A] stabs yep when it comes to the C
[Gm] chord you still play G but you play the seventh of the C
[Ab] [G]
[Gm]
now we're gonna look at the right hand riff 2 while we're here and right hand
[F] riff 2 [G] starts with a G [Eb]
[Em] [Eb] [G] [Eb]
[Em] [Ab] so anything like that it's gonna sound pretty close now
the left hand that's where it gets tricky because [Gm] I'm not playing the left
hand like they play it okay I kind of made up my own bass line so [Bb] [Em] [Cm]
I'm holding
it like that so I'm gonna switch back here just to the piano view a little
better for you so what I'm doing [Gm] I'm holding that G so
[Bb] [E] [Gm] that's all happening
under the G chord [Bb] now [Em] [Dm]
[Cm] that's the C chord now it'd be pretty [C] boring if I just hold
the C the whole way through which you [Gm] can do if you want but [Bb] [E] [C]
so [Gm] [Em] [C]
you can do
that all there you're probably a little closer to the bass line in the real
bass line so [G]
that's what I'm doing and that happens under both the right hand
riff 1 & 2 now I have a drum going at 116 the beat the tempo 116 I also have
a bass going listen to that for a second so that's just a steady pounding
bass drum and again that's the feature of this keyboard the other thing I got
going is the silly little kind of lead [D] sound [G] so that's the way it sounded for
me so we're gonna try to get through this I'm gonna make a lot of [Gb] mistakes
[Gm] because oh I'm not so hot at playing this song yet and but we'll give it a go

Too
[G]
[C]
[G] many teardrops [C] for one heart to be [G] crying
[C] Too [G] many teardrops for one heart to carry on
[C] [G]
Way on top now [C] [G]
since you left me
[C] [G] You're always laughing [Cm] way [Em] down [Gm] at me
[C] But [G] watch out now [C] I'm [G] gonna get there
[C] [G] We'll be together just [C] a [G] little while
[C] [D] I'm [Gm] gonna put you [Em] [C] way [Gm] down here
[C] It's [G] like crying by [C] [G] the six-kill
[C]
[G] Cry, [C] [G] oh cry
When [C] [Em]
the sun comes up I'll be on top
You'll be right there looking up
I'm on my way to come up here
I don't see you waving now
Way down here wondering how
I'm gonna get to you but [C] I know
I'll [G]
just cry, [Em] [C] I'll cry, [G] I'll just cry
Too [C] many teardrops for [G] one heart to [C] be crying
[Gm] Too many teardrops [C] for one [Em] heart [G] to carry on
You're [Cm] [C]
gonna [G] cry 96 [C] kills
You're [G] gonna cry 96 [C] kills
You're [G] gonna cry [C] 96 kills
[G] You're gonna cry, [C] cry, cry, cry now 96 [Gm] kills
[C] Come on let me hear you cry
96 [G] kills
[C] I wanna hear you [G] cry
[Cm] [C] [G] Crying in bed all [C] night long
[G] 96 kills
Let me hear [C] you cry
Come on baby, cry, [G] cry
[C] All night long 96 [Gm] kills
[Em] [C] 96 [Eb] kills
[Em] So [Cm] [C]
[Cm] [Gm] [C] [Em]
[Eb] [C]
[G]
there was a rendition, have you, of 96 Tears.
It may be one of the hardest songs I've tried to get down
in maybe another four or five months.
Playing it maybe 50 times I'll actually have it.
