Hi, this is John Dreyer for Fender University, and we are here to talk tone.
Now we're all tone chasers, and today there are more options than ever
to dial in the perfect tone or the ultimate tone that we all have in our heads.
In this video,
I'm going to offer you some solutions to achieve tones in the style of Eric Clapton using Fender amps and Fender guitars.
These suggestions are meant to be just that.
These are suggestions to point you in the right direction.
There are many factors that play a role in tone.
The guitar, the bodywood, the fretboard wood,
the pickups, the pickup height, the cable, the pick, the amp, the speaker, and so on and so on.
We're going to give you the shortcut to achieving these tones in the simplest way.
I'm here with Rick Hines, product development manager for Fender amplifiers, who will run us through a few
playing samples.
With this video, we're going to give you three options that can cover various budgets.
From these suggestions, I'm sure you will find something that will work for you.
In all these examples,
we'll be using a three single coil Fender Strat with a maple fingerboard.
This first demo features this Fender Eric Clapton signature Strat through a Fender EC VibroChamp.
Small amp, small 8-inch speaker,
no pedals.
We're going to do this all with the guitar and the amp.
Rick will vary the level of the volume knob to show how the tone cleans up when rolling back on the volume.

[A] This next demo features an American Standard Strat with Fat 50s pickups, which is stock, through a Fender SuperChamp X2 on the
Tweed Champ setting, with just a hint of room reverb.
Again, a smaller 1-inch amp with a smaller speaker.
This one has a 10-inch speaker.
Rick, take it away.

Now here's a budget-conscious option.
Here, we're now using a standard Stratocaster with a Mustang 3 amplifier.
We've modified the basic 57 Champ preset on the amp by reducing the gain and increasing the treble, and Rick added [Bb] a touch of reverb.
If you like this preset, you can go to the Fender Fuse website to [A] download it into your Mustang amp.
