Mother trucker.
Hello everybody.
My name is Rowan Sky and in today's video of epic musical awesomeness
I will be showing you how to cheat with the automaton
First of all, I am a small growing channel
So, please be sure to hit that subscribe button
It would mean a lot to me and even more importantly hit that notification bell
So, you know when I come out with a new video, I promise there's some cool fun stuff
Around here.
You'll maybe find something you like who knows
Please be sure to check out my spotify because I put a lot of work and a lot of love into doing [G] my music
There and if you want to see some cool behind the scenes stuff of the all the weird goofy crap
I do instagram is a good place for that
So without further ado, let's jump into the video.
So you're not too bored
So [B] today's video is how to cheat [B] with automaton.
Now, [C] how do you cheat with an automaton?
Well, basically there was an idea I had a while ago
For how this might be possible and I kind of forgot about it and one of the other videos I had recently a subscriber
Mentioned that to me this idea i'm going to show you [Bm] today and I was like, wow
That's that's pretty cool.
Like that actually could work and [B] solve one of the biggest difficulties.
So
The first [G] question you want to address is how how can this be so difficult to play?
Well, it kind of depends on how you define difficulty, right?
Difficulty in this sense is getting it [Em] in tune because you can play a tune
it's like [A] anybody can play this thing you get touch the board and open the mouth and you get
[G] You get sound right?
It's not it's not horribly complicated in that way
But the difficulty comes with the fact that [A] this one
More so with this one.
It's very compressed.
It's very small and it's very touchy and there's absolutely no indication anywhere on these things
Of how or where the notes are found.
So how do you play music on an instrument?
Where you basically just don't have any reference
Well, the answer to that can be found in my video how to play automaton, which is [G] basically talking about
Automaton basically talks about how you can use your [B] ears and use pianos and instruments and use relative pitch to find it
I'm lucky enough to have perfect pitch
So it's really easy for me to find notes on this thing
But basically you have anchor points and all that is described in that video
But the reason this becomes so difficult is because again you have no reference to where you're going on this thing, right?
So you're basically just [B] aimlessly moving around hoping to get it right and it takes a lot of takes
I mean if you've seen any of my automaton covers
Those are those are a lot of takes to get those right
Those are really really hard and if you do notice I have never used that [G] technique before both the sides of my automaton are clean
What is he talking about?
I'll show you in a minute.
So basically for this technique
We are going to need a few [A] things number one an automaton or two automatons take your pick
This one's probably easier because it's a little bit bigger scale length.
I would suggest this do whatever you will
Next you'll need some duct [G] tape or stickers or something that you can kind of cut something adhesivey that you can see and you can
Cut into little thin strips next a pair of scissors so you can get an accurate cut.
So, how does this work?
Well, basically we're gonna i'm gonna talk here and while i'm starting to do this.
So basically
Ow mother trucker.
Basically what you do
Is you cut a piece and I screw it up you get a piece of tape
And you [B] cut a little slab of it here.
So what i'm going to be teaching you today is very very basic
Very rudimentary
But it the ideas and the principles apply to that.
So another way [Bb] any music you play, [A] right?
So basically I was going to teach you the c major scale which wow
You need to be taught that but on the automaton i'm trying to show you again how to cheat with this now normally
[Fm] Here we go.
Let me show an example the c major so c is
uh
right, so
and actually I just happened [C] to hit it almost perfectly there, but
[B]
[A] [F]
And you see how how clunky that was at first, right?
Like that was my first try.
That was my first take
[Cm] And i'm not warmed up and I have no idea where i'm going
So i'm just kind of sliding hoping to get it and you can use fingers
[Dm] Like that, which is kind of a technique I [B] talked about in my video how to play automaton
But basically the easiest thing you can do here is [C] once you find that c and again if you can't
[Bb] Find it via perfect pitch, which I doubt most people can
Use a piano just hit that middle [B] c or whatever and and use relative pitch tone match.
So basically
[C]
I find [D] that note I see it's right there.
And so what I [Cm] do
Wherever my finger is
If you can hear [Dm] me
over [C] the automaton
I basically just take a piece of [D] little tape
And put it along the side and then all of a sudden you have a reference your first reference Oh
Yay, so much enthusiasm son of a biscuit.
Ah, so the process goes
[Dm]
[B] I think when you buy an automaton they come with like a little guide showing you where the notes are
But I mean, let's be real here.
That's not gonna help at all
[F] [C]
So [D] now i've got three so i've got three in the scale, okay, you know what i'm just gonna cut to when i'm finished doing this
[F] [C] cool, so
Um, basically [A] this is the idea i'm just gonna stop here because you can just kind of continuously go with this [Bb] idea but
The the [F] principles of this can be applied to pretty much any [C] string instrument anybody who's played cello violin [G] bass viola
Um, even well, I guess [Bb] oud you could do this too or anything like that
A lot [D] of beginners start out with taking these pieces of like tape or a specifically string tape and you put it
[G] right where your finger positions are [Dm] supposed to be and
You can do this [A] with automaton and believe it or not
It makes it a little bit easier if you want to leave it on there permanently then great
I mean if you really want to you, I guess you could use sharpie, but that's I would not recommend that
But yeah
It's it's a cool little way that you can actually
Make it [C] way easier to play a song if you're trying to learn a specific [G] song
You can look up what notes are in it or you can figure out what notes are in it [Dm] and then
Um, [Bb] you can you can kind of punch in the individual notes where they are or you [Gb] can just
Adapt a certain scale and then kind of use them as reference points like frets on a guitar
[Bb] Where you go between or all that stuff half steps whole steps, whatever works for you
But this is a way that you can do that.
So [F] yippee.
Yay.
Awesome sauce.
All right, [C] Julio
So i'm just gonna address one last little [Bb] one last little thing before the video is over and that is this the smaller version?
of the automaton
um
Yes
[Dm]
What did I just [C] say yes to I don't know but point is
Um, [Db] this instrument is going to be a lot harder as I mentioned earlier to do that with [Bb] it's again very small
um, [C] but the idea is exactly [F] the same cut really thin strips find [C] exactly where the the notes are and then just
Put [F] the little marks there.
See exactly where your fingers are supposed to go
Although I do remember [Bb] last time I tried playing this thing.
Let's see.
How do I go here?
Yeah, I think it's dead.
Really you choose now to do this.
Thank you.
Thank you so much
[G] Exactly the same idea.
See it's very scrunched up with this one.
But you know, whatever works for you an automaton is an automaton
I personally like this [Ab] one the most for all my covers and stuff
So yeah, I hope you found some use in [E] this but either way I hope you kind of [Bb] stuck around to see
[D] Yeah, so anyways, I hope this was kind of helpful to some extent um
Just a little kind of basic tip that can help you improve your automaton playing if you're if you're pursuing a career in automaton
eology, [Bb] um to become a professional automaton player on tour
Which I know was my aspiration for a while [A] until the automaton [F] label decided to drop me
[C] So hope to see you in the next video.
So take care.
Thanks again, [Dm] and have a great day
[Bb] [F] [C]
[Dm] [Bb]

Basically what you do
Is you cut a piece and I screw it up you get a piece of tape
And you [B] cut a little slab of it here.
So what i'm going to be teaching you today is very very basic
Very rudimentary
But it the ideas and the principles apply to that.
So another way [Bb] any music you play, [A] right?
So basically I was going to teach you the c major scale which wow
You need to be taught that but on the automaton i'm trying to show you again how to cheat with this now normally
[Fm] Here we go.
Let me show an example the c major so c is
uh
right, so
and actually I just happened [C] to hit it almost perfectly there, but
[B] _
_ _ [A] _ _ [F] _ _ _ _
_ And you see how how clunky that was at first, right?
Like that was my first try.
That was my first take
[Cm] And i'm not warmed up and I have no idea where i'm going
So i'm just kind of sliding hoping to get it and you can use fingers
[Dm] _ _ Like that, which is kind of a technique I [B] talked about in my video how to play automaton
But basically the easiest thing you can do here is [C] once you find that c and again if you can't
[Bb] Find it via perfect pitch, which I doubt most people can
Use a piano just hit that middle [B] c or whatever and and use relative pitch tone match.
So basically
[C] _
_ I find [D] that note I see it's right there.
And so what I [Cm] do
Wherever my finger is
If you can hear [Dm] me
over [C] the automaton
I basically just take a piece of [D] little tape
_ And put it along the side and then all of a sudden you have a reference your first reference Oh
Yay, so much enthusiasm son of a biscuit.
Ah, so the process goes
[Dm] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[B] I think when you buy an automaton they come with like a little guide showing you where the notes are
But I mean, let's be real here.
That's not gonna help at all
[F] _ _ [C] _
So [D] now i've got three so i've got three in the scale, okay, you know what i'm just gonna cut to when i'm finished doing this
_ _ [F] _ _ [C] cool, so
Um, basically [A] this is the idea i'm just gonna stop here because you can just kind of continuously go with this [Bb] idea but
The the [F] principles of this can be applied to pretty much any [C] string instrument anybody who's played cello violin [G] bass viola
So i'm just gonna address one last little [Bb] one last little thing before the video is over and that is this the smaller version?
of the automaton
um
Yes
[Dm] _
_ What did I just [C] say yes to I don't know but point is
Um, [Db] this instrument is going to be a lot harder as I mentioned earlier to do that with [Bb] it's again very small
um, [C] but the idea is exactly [F] the same cut really thin strips find [C] exactly where the the notes are and then just
Put [F] the little marks there.
Thanks again, [Dm] and have a great day
_ _ [Bb] _ _ _ _ [F] _ _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ _ [Dm] _ _ _ _ [Bb] _
_ _ _ [F] _ _ _ _ [C] _
