Hello, I'm Stevie T and today we're gonna learn how to be djent or as it's known to everyone else djent and
For those people who call it djent it really cuts me deep down inside like a knife
Because it's not pronounced djent the D is silent the D is silent It's djent Not djent
Now djent wasn't originally known as a genre as it's commonly known today
Originally djent was a term used to describe the heavy palm muted guitar sound
I mean calling a metal genre djent would be a lot like calling rap music
Oh, what's your favorite?
Song I mean it's like if we named a new genre of metal music palm muting like what genre of metal music
Do you play?
Oh palm muting?
You know palm muting my favorite metal genre is pinch harmonics
But whatever it's djent labels are labels.
Whatever whatever
I said whatever
The djent djent did it djent did it djent
I think that's why they call it djent with a D because it sounds like djent djent did it djent did it djent
And now any metal band that follows this specific sound is known as djent.
They kind of sound like
How do I describe it?
They kind of sound like
When
[A]
[N] anyone thinks djent that is the sound that they are referring to
[B]
In a vague sense.
I mean, all right now I'm gonna teach [N] you how to write djent music
You'll have to forgive me.
I'm only using a seven string guitar.
How un-djent of me.
Oh
It's a guitar
Where's the seventh eighth and ninth string?
Djent bands nowadays are using eight string guitars and beyond
You know if things keep going this way in five years guitars are gonna look like this
Now what separates djent from genres such as metalcore or deathcore is the intricacies of the breakdowns
I mean, we all know the simple breakdowns in girly metal
[G]
But [N] with djent you may have a breakdown that's a lot more technical sometimes
Polyrhythmic in nature, but I'm gonna teach you the technique to write a djent breakdown as well
now with djent breakdowns a lot of times you'll hear them [A] utilizing just the open strings and
[E] Sometimes there will be breakdowns using a palm muting technique where instead of palm [Em] muting near the bridge
They move their hand in between the pickups [N] and you get a more percussive sound like this
[Abm]
[N] All right now to teach you how to do a djent riff so what we're gonna do is this riff
very djenty so so djent
so we got [B] down pick with the [Bb] strings muted [B] and upstroke
Second [C] fret slightly bend [N] so we get this
[A]
[N] All right, so there we go
So if you don't know how to come up with a pattern for a djent breakdown
Just come up with something off the top of your head just go the djent the djent the djent the djent
So you see what I mean or
Transfer from your mouth to the guitar djent.
Oh
Also, don't be afraid to throw some leads in there I mean
It's not deathcore
So as time goes on djent artists are using more and more low strings and lower
Tunings and the music is just getting lower and lower does that mean if we went back in time in the 90s djent music would
Have been really high.
[A]
Oh
[N]
And and what would djent sound like five years from now?
We basically rendered the bass guitar useless by now, we're like a year away from finding the brown note
All right.
I've got really low gauge strings and I'm in drop L tuning.
Let's see how it sounds
I just need to go grab my tuner.
I dumped ass
Boy, did I dump ass?
So djent
Yes music store.
Oh
Do you guys sell seven string ukulele so I can play you could djent
[D]
[Eb] [Bb]
Quick [N] note that it is also now a rule that every djent artist
Incorporate a triangle and their logo are on their album cover.
Hence my album cover
Hmm.
I said, are you playing djent music?
Yes, I'm playing djent music
Is it anything like that screamo music?
Yes, it's a lot like the genre of music known as screamo
Well, my boyfriend uses a nine string guitar.
You only use a seven string.
You're not djent at all
No, get out of my room go get out.
I'm so djent
You can't handle the djent.
You can't handle the djent
Your notes are so high a Backstreet Boys wants to hire you as their guitarist
I'll play a note so low you'll crap your pants
Why don't you hear my low notes?
I need to play a heavy breakdown.
I'm angry.
Wait till you see how djent I am Yeah
[C]
[A] Listen to that low note on djent is hell
Go [Eb] listen to your Taylor [N] Swift.
What music is she again?
Single I'm so djent
Well, that'll be about all for today
Thank you for joining me in our journey to become djent djent djent djent djent djent djent
