[A] Hi, welcome to the New Song Cafe here at [F#m] WorshipTogether.com.
I'm your host today, Matt Ma.
Today [E] we're joined by Ruben Morgan and Ben Feehling from Hillsong.
We're going to share [D] the song with us, Mighty to Save.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy [A] this New Song Cafe.
Ruben, Ben, welcome to the New Song Cafe.
Thanks for having us.
Glad to have you here.
You guys are going to share with [N] us the song today, Mighty to Save.
I think it's probably safe to say that most people watching this video have either heard
the song or sung it or led it in their churches.
Very impactful song.
I want you to tell us a little bit about how it came to be.
Well, actually, this is a song Ruben and I wrote over summer in Australia.
We were at Ruben's place in his kitchen, which is where a lot of our co-writing takes place.
Very professional workspace, as you can understand.
We were actually working on a different song.
I think we hit a bit of a dead end with that song.
Then out of nowhere came this melody.
We sat on that for a bit and then formed this chorus.
Yeah, because we were just singing that Mighty to Save thing over and over again.
It was like [Gm] a
I didn't know what we were singing.
But then every time it was like, Mighty to Save.
I think I wanted to just do that half chorus.
Just repeat it.
Ben is like, no.
We need more lyrics, [E] man.
Right.
We can't just sing Mighty to Save over and over.
It's very impactful words.
It comes from the book of Zephaniah.
It's this sort of obscure passage.
In terms of, it's not something that you normally navigate to.
But it's like God rejoices over you singing, but it says, He is mighty to save.
When you take it out and you sing it, all of a sudden you realize how impactful it really is.
It's awesome.
Go ahead and share with us, please.

[D] [G] Well, everyone needs compassion, a love that's never failing.
[D] Let mercy fall [C] on me.
Well, everyone [G] needs forgiveness, the kindness of a Savior, [D] the hope of a nation.
[C] [D]
[C] [D] [G] Savior, Savior, He can move [D] the mountains.
[G] My God [C] is mighty to [G] save.
He is mighty to [D] save [G] forever.
Author of [D] salvation, He rose [G] and conquered the grave.
Jesus conquered the [D] [G] grave.
[F] [G] Shine your light and let the whole [D] world see.
[C] We're singing [G] for the glory of the risen [D] King.
[C] Jesus, shine your light [G] and let the whole [D] world see.
We're singing [C] [G] for the glory of the risen [D] King.
[G] Savior, He can [D] move the [G] mountains.
My [C] God is mighty [G] to save.
He is mighty to save forever.
Author [D] of salvation, [C] He rose and conquered the [G] grave.
Jesus conquered the [D] [G] grave.
Thanks for sharing the song.
Gosh, it's such a great song.
And one of the things I love about leading a song too, and I appreciate it about this song,
is there's a real simplicity to the chords.
So, Ben, kind of really quick, it's all sort of based around that G shape, right?
Yeah, that's right.
So, it starts on the C, the verse and intro.
It's G, E minor, and D.
[D] Yeah.
[G] Which is great, because your top two fingers almost stay up just on the string the whole time.
Yeah, I just keep them on that D and G up there.
Yeah.
And then what's neat too is, Ruben, kind of for this performance, you're playing way, capoed up way high.
You're playing in the C shape.
It's a good way, like if it's two acoustics, to kind [C] of be doing something different.
So, you [A#] have the sound.
Yeah, different textures.
Yeah, [D] that's awesome.
Well, thanks so much for sharing the song with us, guys.
And we look forward to seeing you again.
Pleasure.
Thanks.
[E] Savior, [A] Savior, keep your [E] movement on.
Let's go!
