Just like a child
Hello, my name is Casey Chambers.
[C#] I would travel to the other side of the world [E] for barbecue ribs, and I actually have done before.
Anytime that I'm lucky enough to go on tour America,
[G#] one of my favorite places to go is Austin, Texas,
because they have the best ribs.
I'm not going to pick out one place because there's about four or five rib places that I go to over there.
And every time [G#m] they
never cease to amaze me how [G#] they can make ribs taste [A] so good.
[C#] That's an interesting [G#] question because I'm not really overly scared of
many Aussie creatures really.
[A#] I grew up in the outback.
You know, my dad [C#m] was a professional fox hunter.
I lived
most of [D#m] my childhood living on the Nullarbor, [E] traveling all around.
I grew up around all of these different Australian animals, and it [B] became such a normal part of my life.
The animals that I have now living in my house
[Am] I don't have a cat and I don't have a dog, but I have [C#] four pythons.
I have
scorpions.
I have [D#] green tree frogs.
I have
long-necked turtles.
I have a bird [A]-eating spider
called Bruce.
I have all these crazy [B] animals that a lot of people would think of [G#m] as dangerous animals, but I love them.
So it's a part of my life.
I don't think I'm scared of any.
If I could get the proper [C#m] license for it,
I would have a pet crocodile if someone would let me.
[G#] It's actually really hard for me to pick my favorite venue from [A] all over the world.
I have so [E] many places that I love playing.
[A] And it's funny too, because when I [G#] travel all around playing everywhere,
I really enjoy different towns and different venues for different things.
But the [C#] first place that comes to my [C#m] mind is actually Washington DC,
the suburb of
Alexandria, and [E] the venue is called the Birchmere.
And they have been giving me a gig there for many, many years.
[B] Every single time we tour in America, I get to play at this amazing place and these beautiful people [A] come along and
we get to play to them every time.
They look after us really well there.
You know, they give us free barbecue ribs, which I love.
[E] That's certainly a bonus, but I don't know, I can't even really explain what makes that venue
[G#m] and [B] that gig so amazing every time.
They're beautiful people to work with and all of that.
But [A] there's just some little magic that happens there [Am] every single time we play.
And [C#] I know I often try out new songs [C#m] when I go and [C#] play there,
because they're such [G#] a lovely audience who [G#] kind of like everything.
And I think
even if they don't like my new songs, [A] they're nice enough.
They just pretend they do anyway, so it fills me with lots of [E] confidence.
So I love [C#m] going back there and playing.
But so [G#] we also love playing the old ones [C#] for them as well.
But definitely
one of the most amazing places to play in the world is the Birchmere.
[E] My dream ride actually [B] is just barbecue ribs.
I've realized now that pretty much any gig that gives me barbecue ribs
[C#] [A] backstage is probably my favorite gig that I can do.
I'm pretty easygoing.
I'm [B] not a huge drinker, so I don't need much alcohol.
Although that keeps my band happy, so [A] I do like to have some of that on there.
But yeah, it's mostly just any food and I'm not even really that fussy.
I'll eat pretty [C#m] much anything.
But if it's barbecue ribs,
yeah, you definitely go to the top of the list [F#] of being my favorite gig.
[C#] [G#] One of my favorite songs that I've always wished that I had written [Bm] is a song by a lady called Iris Dement called
No [F#] Time To Cry.
Ironically, it's called No Time [C#] To Cry, but it makes me cry every single time I hear it.
[G#m] It's just amazing and it just has this
[Bm] incredible way of
[F#] saying it just like it is and being [C#] exactly how
women feel.
[G#m] Another ironic thing about that [B] is that it was actually later on recorded by [F#] Merle Haggard.
And I've always thought of it as such a point of view of a [C#] woman's song and [A#m] then Merle Haggard
recorded it [B] and made it sound like his own [B] and I thought, well, you know,
is there a better person to have [F#] record one of your songs?
So I do wish that I [C#] had written that.
You know, I grew [G#m] up listening to a lot of Metallica, weirdly enough.
[B] I met this guy called Kim Warner who was one of these
[C] incredible mandolin players
[C#] who loves [C#] bluegrass music and was his [G#m] main love was bluegrass music.
And I had this [B] massive crush on him mainly because he [D#m] played music [F#] and he was pretty cute too.
But he played this [C#] mandolin,
played this bluegrass music, but he also loved [G#m] heavy metal bands, which I thought was really weird.
But I [B] decided from that moment on that I will I have to love [F#] heavy metal bands too.
So I decided that I [C#] wanted to listen to everything that that Kim Warner listened to.
[B] One of his favorite bands was Metallica.
So I started putting posters of Metallica all over my walls and and listening to [F#] them
all the time and I started even [C#] learning how to play their songs on guitar really badly.
[G#] [G#m] But I don't know if [A#] their influence really crept into much of my [F#] songwriting.
I don't know if you can hear much of them.
It's a fair way away from what [C#] I do, but [G#m] who would I swipe right [B] for?
Definitely Keith Urban.
You know, [D#] I'm a big Keith fan and I've actually known Keith for a long time.
[F#] I still have a massive crush on that guy and I actually just [D#m] recently recorded a song with him
called [F#m] If We Had A Child and I pretty much only got him [F#] to come and sing on the song because I thought for at
least three and a half minutes I could pretend that we had a child together.
