[F] You know, it's amazing when I think about it.
I've been a pro for over 50 years now, which is amazing.
And in that time I've worked with a lot of the old, old guys.
I started my career working with Earl [Fm] Garner and then I ended up playing with Duke Ellington
and George Shearing and on and on and a lot of the [N] old greats.
And here I am today working with all the young guys today, you know.
[Ab]
[Fm] [Eb]
[Fm] [Bbm] [Fm] [Eb]
[Abm] [Bbm]
[Cm] What is chameleon?
[Fm] Chameleon changes.
It's never the [Eb] same.
Plays all different kinds of things.
[Ab] That's how I've been described [Bbm] and that's how my career [Eb] has gone.
[Cm] So as a [Eb] result I had this idea that [Db] I should record a band called Chameleon.
And it also just so happened that many years ago I [Gm] recorded a song called Chameleon, [Abm] which
I was a co-writer on with Herbie Hancock.
I mean that CD did a lot for my career.
I had hoped to capture a lot of the feeling that we had when we originally did Chameleon,
[Db] but then move forward.
[Ab] As the record progressed it seemed [D] to have more of [G] a retro effect and it seemed like
that was the direction it [Db] should go.
[Bb] For one of the first times in my career [B] I invited [F] someone to co-produce with me, [Bbm] Chris Dunn.
He's a senior A&R at Concord.
And [Cm] he introduced me [Bb] to a lot of very, very [F] young [D] jazz [Ab] giants.
Christian Scott, Ben Williams, [C] Chris Bowers, Kamasi [Bb] Washington, Chris [Fm] Turner, Matt [F] Stevens,
Gabby [Bb] Fede, [Cm] Cory King, [F] Mark DeKlive played keyboards and [C] synthesizers.
Bill Summers [Eb] played with me on the original Headhunters.
[F] John Beasley's playing on the [C] CD.
[Cm] Paul Jackson's playing on a couple of tracks.
Jimmy [F] Hassler.
[B] The co-founders of [Bb] Yellow Jackets [Ab] was playing on the CD.
It's [Gm] just amazing.
[Eb] I feel this CD is something you can put on and play from top to bottom.
It has a [G] really smooth [Dm] effect.
Everything [Gm] flows together.
There's music [Fm] that's going to make you bounce a little [Em] bit [Am] and then there's a lot of music
that's going to make you [Bb] think a lot.
Everyone was in the room live and did everything live and that's the way we used to [Eb] make CDs.
And it has that feel.
And then [C] things just kind of worked out.
Everyone was [Fm] listening to everyone and playing at different places.
[Bb] Things just kind of fit together.
[Cm] So [F] it's a very organic [Eb] CD.
It feels like it's 2014.
[F] [Ab] [C]
