[G] Welcome back to the Texas music scene y'all.
Now Haley Cole is a lovely and [E] talented songwriter that we're proud to wave the flag for.
[Abm] She's making quite the buzz in this music [Em] scene with the release of her full length album [E] called Illusions.
Here [Gb] now is [A] our backstage conversation with Haley about that collection of tunes.
[E] You know I really [A] hate broken [E] hearts but [A] they'll just go [Dbm] to waste
So [B] why [E] don't we [A] just cut to the chase
I [E]
just can't take [Dbm] the time out of my day
[A] I just can't take [E] the time out of my [B] day
[Dbm] To [B] say [E] I [A] love you more
[E] [Dbm] You know I [B] do
[E] Well it all really started in church.
It all started from the very beginning.
Just saying I did some specials.
I think our church [A] on a good Sunday was 20 people.
So it wasn't really like [E] showcasing performance and stuff.
It was always a very [A] emotional thing for me.
[E] My mom always said you could be the best singer, songwriter, guitar player, whatever, [A] golfer.
But if you don't [Dbm] play [B] from your heart or sing from your heart
[E] and do [A] it in a place that's right then [Ab] it doesn't mean [A] anything.
You could [E] be the best and not have it all.
That's stayed with me [Bm] to this day and it [Gb] probably will stay with me forever.
I want you [D] to haunt me, [E] haunt me
In [Gbm] my dreams
[D] [E] Cause I hunt for [Gb]
[Gbm] ghosts
After [Bm] I tried [E] school out for a little bit, taking a [Gbm] break, going [Bm] back.
I worked for a little bit, [Gb] still took some online classes and was still [D] playing as much as I possibly could.
[E] But I realized that if I wasn't doing it full time then I wasn't [C] really doing it.
[D] I decided just to go full time music and that's when I moved [Gb] to St.
Marcus.
But [Ebm] really what moved me in the entire [Bb] move was when I went to Steamboat for the first time.
And I met Minet River Choir and the Chubby Knuckle Choir and all these people.
It was [Cm] so contagious.
I wanted to be a part of this community.
It was like a family.
And they said this area is where you need [Bb] to be if you want to play music.
[Ab] I can't take it any longer
I can't take [Eb] it anymore
I [Bb] [Ab]
can't take it any longer
I can't take it [Eb] anymore
[Bb] Just [Cm] [Ab] existing
This [Eb] [Bb]
whole album Illusions [Cm] was inspired by this move and just getting [Bb] out of a place that
I didn't feel like I could be [Ebm] myself.
I didn't feel like I could freely create what I wanted to.
I felt here everyone is so [Dm] carefree [Am] and free spirited and it sounds very hippie of me to say but it's true.
Illusions, [Em] which is funny, it's the title track of the new album.
It was actually the last song that I wrote.
[A] I don't think [Gm] that happens [D] very often but I had written it so many [Am] different times.
Like five or six times, completed it.
And I never felt like it was where I wanted it to be.
[Em] I reached out to my friends at Rio Tribiano and we went out to [D] the river and we finished it on the [Am] dock.
So that one hits really close to home because it's just about doing what you love against all odds.
And [Em] as crazy as everybody thinks it is playing [D] music for a living.
It's what I dreamed of doing since I was a little girl.
[Am] [C]
[Em]
[D] I [C] listen literally on a day to day basis.
Everywhere from Kendrick Lamar to Patty [Em] Griffin to Alison Krauss, Robert Plant and then [D] jazz.
It's so across [Em] the board that I think my [Am] music in ten years is going to be [A] something that no one has ever done before.
I'm trying to stay true to who I am.
[Gb] I'm not trying to be anything but what [A] inspires me and all the different influences that I [Dbm] have.
Whatever you [E] want to call that if you want to try to put [Abm] it in a genre.
[A] Good luck.
[E] [Abm] [E] [Abm]
[A] [E]
[Dbm] [E] [A]
[E] [B] [Dbm] [Ebm] [E] [Abm]
[A] [E] [B] [E]
[A] [Dbm] [Ebm] [E]
[A] I'm [Dbm] not trying to be anything but [B] [E] what inspires me and all the different influences that I have.
