Hi guys, Björn from In Flames here.
I'm here today to try and show you a couple of our riffs.
I'm gonna try three different ideas from our upcoming album, Battles.
And I haven't played some of those riffs since we recorded, so please bear with me.
Yeah, so the first riff I'm gonna show you guys is a part of the verse in a song called Underneath My Skin.
[Db]
[Eb]
[Db]
It's fairly straightforward, but since I never practiced or learned how to play the guitar properly, I take it
My picking is probably a bit backwards and awkward, but of course you guys are really good, so you will do this [Gb] right.
But I'll do it really slow.
[Eb]
[F] [Db]
[Eb]
[B] Simple, right?
Yeah, that was fun.
[E] I'm gonna play a part from the first single we released from Battles, a song called The End.
And I think it's a pretty cool little exercise in a way.
It's not complex at all, but it's a little bit of string skipping.
It's harmonized as well.
I'm just gonna show you the basic, the first pattern.
And it starts off with palm muting, I think it's called.
And then you open up the second round.
[Bbm]
[Bb]
[C]
[D] Simple in itself, but it's pretty fun to play it, and especially if you're standing up, your hands are way further down.
It's a good stretching exercise in a way.
So I'll do it really slowly, [Bbm]
[Ab]
[Bb] [Ab] [Bb]
[Bb] [Gb]
and since you are so good, you'll probably do it clean as well.
And
[D] lastly I'm gonna play parts of the intro song from the album.
It's called Drained.
The album is called Battles, out November 11th.
Check it out.
[E] So it's more of a riff than perhaps stretching and warming up and stuff like that.
But I'll try to play it for you now, and we'll see how it goes.
I haven't played it for [Bb] a long time.
[F]
[Db]
Something to keep in mind is that we tune in C, maybe because we're lazy.
Not sure.
But it's an interesting way of writing riffs.
So [Db] [Bbm]
[Gb] [Bb] [G]
[Bb] [N]
there you have it.
Three riffs.
Not very well played, but then again, they're good.
Thank you very much guys, it's been a pleasure being here at Guitar Extreme.
I hope to see all of you guys on tour.
