Hello, I'm Tom Feldman and welcome to this lesson on the guitar of Frank Stokes.
In this lesson we're going to work through quite a few different songs out of standard tuning.
We're going to be actually using a capo for the majority of the lesson
to get us into the original key of the original recordings.
The original recordings are included with the lesson.
Also included with the lesson is tablature.
It is a PDF file on the disc for those of you with the DVD.
For those of you with the download, you can see in the main menu area how to access that PDF.
One of the great things about learning Frank Stokes' music is that once you've learned the first verse and the intro,
then you've pretty much got the song well learned.
For that reason, we're going to be able to get through quite a few different songs.
We're going to start off in C position, then get into D position, G, A, and lastly E.
So let's get into tuning and get [E] underway.
We've got our low A, got our low E, [A]
A, [D] D,
[Gm] G,
[B] B, [E] and our high E.
[F#] The first song I want to get into is called Take Me Back, so let's get started.
[D] [F#m] [G]
[A] [D]
[F#m]
[G] [A]
[D] Well, it ain't [F#m] nobody's business, honey, [G] where in the world I spend my money.
[A] It ain't nobody's business [D] but mine.
It ain't nobody's business, [G] kid, where I keep my money.
[A] It ain't nobody's business [D] but mine.
Well, I'm going back to Memphis, [G] Tennessee, where them girls, they're liking me.
[A] It ain't nobody's business [D] but mine.
Yeah, I'm going back to my [F#m] own [G] town, where the girls, they like me strolling [A] around.
It ain't nobody's business [D] but mine.
Well, it ain't nobody's [F#] business, [G] honey, where in the world I spend my [A] money.
It ain't nobody's business [D] but mine.
Nobody's [F#] business, [G] kid, where I keep my money.
[A] It ain't nobody's [Am] business [D] but mine.
[F#] [G] [A]
[D]
[F#] [G] [A]
[Bm] [D]
[N]
That was Taint Nobody's Business If I Do.
This is a very popular song, and many, many people have recorded versions of this song.
We're capoed at the second fret, just like Take Me Back, and much like Take Me Back,
we're still just using our C, F, and G chords, so let me run through the chord progression here with my [D] left hand.
[F#m]
[G] F, [A] G, [D]
back to C, just starts over again.
C,
[F#m] [G] F,
[A] G, and [D]
then walking back to C.
So walking from that G back to [A] C, it's going to go [Gm] [F#m] back [D] home to [A] C.
[D] And that is the complete [N] chord progression.
There's no variations from verse to verse.
There's no variations in the guitar breaks that he does.
It's all centered around that.
So looking at the right hand for the alternating bass patterns that we're going to be using for this song,
we've got [D] our C chord, this 5-4,
[F#m] our F, [G] this 6-4,
[A] G, 6-4, [F#]
back to [D] C, and we're back to [F#] C.
We're doing 5-4, 6-4, [F#m] 5-4, 6-4, [D]
[G] F,
[A] G, [D]
back to C.
So with [G] that C chord, he's doing a mixture of [F#] 5-4, 5-4, 5-4, and also that [F#m] 5-4, 6-4, 5-4, 6-4.
So he's using that throughout the song, both of those versions.
And again, really that's all there is to Taint Nobody's Business If I Do,
so let's go to the split screen and we'll go through it together.
