[B] Slide, I learned from Ry Cooder.
I learned from Ry Cooder and I learned from basically
guys like that, David Lindley.
[N] And Slide is completely opposite of what you. There.

I think you're picking a lot and slides about intonation and muting.
You can't have just, Warren Haynes told me this thing, that you like, you ghost every
note and you ghost the slide with your index finger and then you mute like here and you
just pick the notes that you want.
It actually makes a lot of sense.
[Am] [Bb] [E] And I learned to play slide also from Johnny Winter when he would like, he had those really [Gm] blistering riffs.
[E] [A]
[B] [Bb] [E] And I was like, that was the Johnny Winter [B] thing.
And then I was snuck into a movie called Crossroads when I was a child.
It wasn't the one with Britney Spears, I assure you.
[E] And I was inspired by that one too.
It was basically, and I heard this sound when Ralph Macchio got his heart broken by the
girl who's now on that sitcom, Jim Belushi.
I heard this sound and you know it wasn't recorded on a telecaster, I guarantee you that.
I heard the sound and it went like this.
[Em] [Bm] [G] [A]
[Em] [G] [Abm] [A] [Em]

[B] [Ab] [A]

[B] [E] [A]
[G] [Gb] [F]
[E] And that was what, [B]
[Bm] have you ever seen that episode of The Family Guy when the whole family
goes down to the south and Steve Griffin discovers a banjo and it was like that look on my face,
what is that dulcet tone I just heard?
And it just pierced right through me.
And I was like, who is this man playing that slide?
And it was like the most, just made you want to cry.
And [Db]
that was my introduction to slide and that was my introduction to Ry Cooder.
And I didn't realize how talented of a man Ry Cooder really is until I started getting
involved with it.
And I learned that piece note by note and I still play it when I'm sad because I don't
believe there's ever been a recording that really takes you to that place more than that,
it's called Feeling Bad Blues by Ry Cooder.
And that's basically my slide style in a nutshell.
And it's a real therapeutic piece.
And I must note this, that my guitar tech Dave has invented what I believe is the greatest
slide holder ever invented because he took a standard issue magnet and a piece of Velcro
and it just sits right back there.
And because I use steel slide, it wouldn't work with glass but it works with steel and it's great.
And that's slide for me.
And slide, you can either play regular tuning, I like open E [E] because it's just really, really heartfelt.
[N] And that's it.
I think I'll end it on that note.
Thank you guys very much for coming.
You guys have been great and very honored to be on the stage.
Thank you all.
Mr.
Joe Vatomasa everybody.
Thank you Joe.
