_ _ _ _ [N] marrying Cher, I mean, _ there's good parts to these things and then there was
there's bad parts and [Bb] it just it it took a lot of growing up real fast.
I wanted to ask you about Cher and well all of a sudden all of a sudden because Greg Allman
you didn't hear a lot about Greg Allman for a while then all of a sudden he
married Cher and boom you guys were in every magazine in the country. _
_ To tell you the truth I didn't even think about that. _
One day she said to me after
we had realized the two of us had fallen in love she said you know [N] this could get
you in some [C] real trouble [F] and that you know [Bb] press is gonna be all over you and
I thought of course not I mean love is really blind that's for sure and all of
a [N] sudden I mean I couldn't make a move I couldn't go out in the front lawn and
wash my car without people being over the gate and [Bb] I thought this is
ridiculous and so at one at one period of time it really got to me it [Bb] really
got to me _ and the reason that that we that we split up I [C] think was [Bb] more her
_ her surroundings where she was I mean Beverly [C] Hills Hollywood I just I
couldn't take it I couldn't live that way I couldn't do it I [Bb] mean I had to
come back down south that's where I belong I think if she had come with me
it might have worked.
Did you ask her?
_ [C] No I didn't because I knew I [Bb] knew that that
was where her roots were and respected that I didn't really have to ask her _ _ but
I mean that [Ab] place will drive a southern boy to [Bb] drink I'll tell you [Eb] I mean don't
get me wrong I love the audience in Los Angeles _ I [N] love to go there but it's like
New York City I [Bb] love the people in New York City that's probably the best town
_ but I got to go after four days. _
You and Cher still talk?
Sure.
[A] I mean because [Bb] y'all had a baby.
Sure did.
Beautiful little boy.
He just turned six years old.
Doesn't seem like it's been that long.
It sure doesn't.
It really doesn't.
And who thought of the name?
I did.
It's a pretty name.
I mean you don't hear it for real.
No he doesn't.

[C] I mean the time that he was aware that he was alive man music would just get him moving.
Of course most [B] babies are that way but he's still [Bb] crazy about music.
I guess a lot of people thought that when you and Cher got married that it was a real unlikely combination.
I mean here she is.
[Bb] She's more than top 40.
_ [E] Getting married [Gb] didn't have anything to [Bb] do with it.
But I think people perceive that as an unlikely.
I wouldn't marry my bass player because he played good.
I mean if it was a woman. _
Yeah.
_ _ Well I mean it didn't seem like.
_ Well to me it seemed perfect. _ _
_ _ And to her it seemed perfect.
And for a while it was perfect.
_ _ _ But there was so much.
I mean a day in the life of Cher and Greg Allman was just.
_ Staggering.
Some of them.
Why? _ _ _
[C] I remember one night we were sitting on the bed and watching TV.
[Bb] I said why don't we go see this certain movie.
Get out of the house for a while.
She said fine.
So we walked downstairs to get in the car and drive to the theater.
And here's eight or nine photographers waiting on us.
Now you tell me how did they know?
_ _ _ Because they get paid very high.
I mean if you like back then a [Ab] photographer who brought in a picture of me looking like I was really [D] stoned [Bb] really was in the chips man.
I mean five six thousand bucks for a picture.
They were like soup up these Nikons you know they catch you when you blink in your eyes.
You know you'd be just coming from church you know.
Why don't you take pictures at home and send them in for extra money.
_ _ I don't know.
I just didn't understand how people could make their living talking about other people.
