I would play it for him, and so I will.
It was interesting to just see how this song came about, because I'd written this little guitar lick.

And I really [N] liked it, actually, I didn't think about to use it for, and I had it for quite some time.
And one day [Ab] I was walking around and [N] the tune, like jingle bells, occurred to me.
And I know it sounds ridiculous, but if you listen, [D]
[G]
[D] [A] [G]
[D] you'll see this.
[N] Anyway, then I thought, well, maybe it could be a song about Christmas.
[Ab] And I started to think more and more about Christmas and of the implications of it.
When I was [G] a very young boy, I [Ab] mean, Christmas was about peace, honour, good will to all [B] men.
[N]
And I thought more and more that it became more about shopping and marketing and hype and stress.
And I kind of lamented this old Christmas, you know, the Christmas where these neighbours were out and about, they'd patch it up.
I mean, you must have all heard them say, come on, it's Christmas.
It was a time that greed and the meanest soul, you know, they would drop very harshly, you know,
and they would just for that one little time, they would become generous and foolish.
And so I decided, you know, that maybe a song about that would be good.
And then I thought, well, you know, if we really, how do [E] you tell that story?
And I think there's no better way than from a child's perspective, [N] which was mine.
And so we thought of the title, I believe, in light of Christmas.
So the gentleman who asked the question, here it is.

[G] A [D] pale tears for the virgin bird.
[G] I remember [D] one Christmas [G] morning, winter's light [D] and a distant fire.
The peal of an elk, [G] that Christmas [D] tree smell, the lights were tinsel and fire.
