Hi,
[F] [Abm]
I'm Brenton [Db] Brown and you're watching WorshipTogether.com's New Song Cafe.
Today [Bbm] we have in the studio [Ab] Chris Tomlin and some of his band and they'll be singing a
song called God of the City.
[B]
So Matt, Daniel, Chris, great to have you with us.
Thanks Brenton.
What song are we going to hear?
This song is called God of the City and it's on the newest Passion CD which is called God
of the City. Right.
It's a really crazy story.
We were playing in Belfast, Northern Ireland and it was a day of concert where there was
tons of bands, like four or five bands.
And there was a band that opened called Blue Tree and Daniel heard them.
Daniel was in it when they were playing [E] and Daniel heard them play this song.
I remember him running back in the dressing room going, man Chris, did you hear that song?
I was like, no, I didn't hear it.
And he's like, you've got to check this song out.
It's an amazing, amazing song.
He said something about God and the city and just really powerful.
He says real fresh, it was worded and just a melody and it just exploded.
And I was like, well, I'd love to hear this.
So we got in touch with the guys and heard the demo of the song immediately.
I felt like this is a song for [Ab] what we're doing with the Passion, what's going on with
the Passion movement right now as far as doing a world tour and going to all these cities
around the world.
And just really saying that in some of the darkest places of the world, you know, for
greater things have yet to come.
Greater things are still to be done here.
The story behind this song is unreal.
You'll hear that from Aaron, from the guys at Blue Tree.
They're going to tell the story.
It is what worship leading is about, this song and where it came from and just how God
put this song in these guys' hearts in one of the darkest places on the earth.
And this is just, you know, I've gotten so much feedback from this song through emails
and stuff from people from all over the world already using this song in their city saying,
man, just like you were saying earlier before, you know, wherever you go, you play this song
and people feel a hope.
You know, like, okay, I believe this for my city.
Right.
And it's often tempting when you hear these recordings and songs from other parts of the
world to think, well, God is only working in these other places.
He could never do anything with our town.
But it's a really, it's hopeful to know that God is God of whatever town we're in, to sing
it over our cities and to believe God for that.
Exactly.
And cities are not buildings, you know, they're people.
And it's what we're saying.
The greater things are here, not for the buildings and for the sky, skyline, it's for the people.
And so we'll play a little bit for you.
This is, brought Matt in, our piano player, and, you know, just a touch of class.
A touch of class.
You'll just, you'll feel the presence.
But we'll just play a little for you guys and [Am] then show you how we play it.
Great.
Go for it, bro.
