Start Jamming...
Hi, this is NME.
I'm Tom.
We're backstage behind the other stage at Glastonbury and we have nothing but thieves.
We've just played today
[F] So, how was your set?
It will go?
Okay.
How was the set?
It was good
You're about to cut him off already weren't you before he finished his sentence you rude boy
I get very keen to talk about myself.
How's the set [N] for you Joe?
Well, really what after we played well, I'm smashed by the way, so I apologize
We'll try and be very PC and we won't say anything too offensive
It was incredible had because the record coming out haven't you say you road testing a few at the big festivals?
yeah, the new record comes out September 8th and
We played three new songs one that we've already released.
I'm so them and two new songs
Design and sorry and I think went really well
We weren't sure how sorry was gonna go because we practice it yesterday
We had a few technical difficulties and we're still sort of working it out
but
Surprisingly, I think we got away of it
You get a bit worried when you're playing the new ones
Yeah, because you don't know how I was gonna react now.
I was really having to concentrate this time
I think we all were but with sorry is our next thing is called.
Sorry and
We practice it kind of the first time properly yesterday.
We've run it a few times
But so we were very nervous to play today, but I think it went alright and the crowd were just incredible
What a festival today it was insane
Just did a smaller tour you do a few smaller dates
[G] Yeah long ago
We didn't like a little underplayed or to get asked already and it's just good because you know done like we haven't done these
small tours in the UK for [F#] a
Couple years now, please.
So it's nice to get back and see the whites
[N] Different experience when you're playing
Yeah, it's a different game isn't we have to
Change the way we do everything
we played um played on a white a few weeks ago and
It's the first main stage.
We've been on since like for
Must be like eight months or something
So we weren't quite ready for it because we played dingles in London, which like 400 cap venue or something
So so then try and learn how to deal with a big stage again was a bit of a we were quite confused
But you I think you did great.
You always did great
And he's modest and that's why that's why he's one of my closest friends
Yeah, actually I would say and it always depends on the crowd and the crowd were incredible today it was
really easy to respond with them and they were really up for a good time and
Yeah, I have nothing more to say but like the crowd were incredible
So you do a bit of covers in your sets occasionally don't you?
Yeah a little bit some Bob's in
So what's the what's your favorite cover you guys do last resort by Papa Roach?
Oh, yeah
Yeah, because Phil our bass player claims
It's the temp is in the top ten best songs ever written and I actually I disagree
I say it's in the top five songs ever written
alongside of
the Beatles and the Lincoln Park to talk discography
This is a joke by the way, like no, no, I totally believe you.
Well, it's a joke for you because
you just like Adele but
you know, we we sometimes do we did we did a little cover of code choice by audio slave because [F#] you know,
We lost [E] well, you lost an idol.
This is probably better for you.
[N] Yes
my favorite singer growing up really pretty much and
We love that song.
We tried to do a bit of service to it
I actually like was like everyone is doing this set and I was like, oh, I don't want to I don't want to
Bugger it, you know
Let's play, you know in the comfort zone, but you know do that really well, so I'm kind of glad I did
We also play a cover of Pixies, which is cool.
You love that song.
Don't you?
We all of it?
Amazing song.
Yeah, it's [D#] just songs we love.
What's your dream cover?
What's the one you you're gonna try out next?
I mean, I don't know.
I mean I lost it [N] bucky one one day, but
We're just not good enough to do the people that we love really so
It's just a poor imitation of what they do isn't it so it's what we can get away with and have fun
We're a great.
We're a great pub band, you know get us down on a Thursday night when they're doing specials and like
A hunter's chicken and nothing but thieves doing covers of
Jeff Buckley and radio one one pop when we go
What's that song
We don't want to talk about this anymore
It's getting embarrassing now.
So which the headline is he most looking forward to this weekend?
You're ready head tonight you into free fighters or so.
Here's the thing, right?
The the all that's big cheer.
Who's that?
There's a lot of
There's a lot of bands we love but mutually I think the place that we all [F#] come together is Radiohead
So collectively we're say that
Joe's gonna talk about food fires for about an hour now.
How [G] long have we got?
Ready head [F#] and food fires probably if I was forced to choose a gunpoint probably my two favorite bands of all time
Food fires now.
They've got a new song out.
It's
[C#] Unbelievably good, but I wasn't sure about the last album is a bit
You know the documentary about it and like, [D] you know, I think they they focus [F#] too much the documentary
But [D#] this this new songs amazing.
It's called run.
I'd definitely check it out.
We kind of unfortunately can't see it
Can we we're going to Germany?
You smell like a brewery and not a nice one
Fee files are great
[G#] Connor
Connor why aren't you [F#] smashed Connor's very sensible and he looks after his voice
Joe night Joe and I make up for the alcoholic consumption that he lacks
[N] So I think collectively I'll say I'm looking forward to radiohead Joe's looking forward to food fires and Connor's looking for the Ed Sheeran next question
Circle wave just said that they're ready to step up and do the next headline set
I reckon you guys aiming for that as well.
I just don't think we aspire to be better than what we are now
I think we've hit we've hit a glass ceiling
We are we all we all know it like everyone's sort of said just like these guys have flagged it this far
But everyone see if it's very transparent this career.
Let's [F#] be honest
Let's take a step back and but I think real I [G] think yeah, I mean it's great obviously and circle waves are a great band
We [C] watch them watch we play the same we watch their amazing live
Does it mean that we have to fight them for the headline slot?
[F#] Because I think we'll do it
[E] There's four of them as far as [D] I mean [C] that Connor's half a man
[A#] It's a numbers game.
[E] So we've got four and a half before you're just getting slightly abused
It's okay, no, [F#] they're lovely boys, I wouldn't want to fight them that's really nice.
[N] He's got really nice arms actually quite
Guys, enjoy the rest of your day
Sorry for probably the worst interview that you've experienced ever not just on this festival.
I've got my hand around this man
