Thanks for watching.
I got a couple of licks for you today.
Um, I was a big, uh, still am a big George Benson fan.
And he helped me a lot when I was getting into jazz because he, he kind of, I really
liked the combination of the blues and jazz thing that he had going, you know?
So that, that was an easy way for me to segue into jazz.
So I got a couple of licks for you today that I kind of Benson inspired.
Um, we're, we're going to be in B flat.
Okay.
[Bb] Our first [Eb] lick is a combination of, uh, kind of chromatics, chromatic 16 notes
with a, with a little bit of like an F [B] superlocarian and then a little triplet line.
So let me play it for you.
[Fm] Uh, again, we're B flat and we're starting on the end four.
So this is what it sounds like.
One, [Eb] three, four.
[E]
Right.
One more time.
Three, four.
[Gm] Right.
[Cm] So once again, we're [G] starting on the sixth [Bb] root and then downbeat would be right here
on the [Dbm] minor third.
[Db]
Come on.
[Ab] Now we go up chromatic.
Um, till you get to the, to the sharp five [D] [E]
right [D] here.
[Bm] Then back down chromatic till you get [D] to the minor third.
[Dbm] [B]
[Gb]
So actually when I play it fast, [Cm] when I [Gb] get to the sharp five, I do a pull off [D] here.
[Gb]
[D] [Dbm]
Right.
So now once we get here, we're [E] going to do like, kind of like an F superlocarian.
[Gb] [Db]
So thinking, thinking from [F] F now [E] got third.
[Eb] Uh, sharp nine, [Gb] flat nine, root, [Eb] flat seven.
And now we're in [Bb] the third of B flat.
[E]
[A] [Eb] [D]
[B] [E] [Eb]
[Dm] [E] [D] Right.
[F] One, four.
[E] [Dm] I mean, one, [E] five, flat five.
[D] [Gbm]
[D] [D]
Now we're going to go E flat major seven in [Eb] triplet.
[C] [Bb]
And now [A] we're going to go, uh, diminish arpeggio [Cm] from here.
[Gbm] [E]
[Eb]
[E] [Ebm] [D]
Now [D] for the most part, sorry, I don't know if you can see my hand.
I'm kind of alternate picking, uh, the whole thing.
[Eb]
[E]
[Gm] [Db] [E] [Gb]
This is where I do the pull off.
[Gbm]
[Dm] [E]
[A] [Dm] [E]
[D] [Gm] One more time.
Slow.
[D] [Gb] [E]
[A] [Dm]
[E] [Gm] [Am]
[Ebm] [Bb] [D]
[Dm]
[E] [Gbm]
[Dm] [D] [Gm]
Right.
[N] Okay.
Um, hopefully you, you kind of were able to get that.
If you need a tab, just let me know.
Um, second lick here it is.
Let me play it for you.
[F] [Ab]
Same B [Fm] flat.
[Eb]
[F] [Gb] [E] [F]
[Ab] [Bb] Right.
So we're going to start, we're going to start on the fifth,
[Gm] six, one [A] major
seven, [Abm] flat seven [D] chromatic down to the fifth.
[F]
[A] And now [G] I'm actually doing that slide.
[E]
[G] [E] [Eb] Then, uh, pinky on the set on the flat [Gb] seven [C] chromatic down to the fifth.
[Fm] Now we're going to do one of these, [E]
uh, flat [Eb] five, [Dbm] four, minus [E] third,
root
[D]
[Bb] down chromatically to the six.
[A] [Gm] [E]
[G] Notice I'm [F] doing a lot of sliding here.
[E]
My first, with my first finger, slide
[G] here.
[F]
[Eb] Five, [Db] four, flat third, [D] major third.
[F] [D]
[Db] [D] And [F] then five, [Bb]
root, [Ab] flat seven.
[D] [F]
[Ab] [D] [F]
[Ab] [Dm] [E]
[A] [F] [Ab]
Right.
One more [C] time.
Slow [E] down
[F] beat.
[Bb]
[F] [D] [Bb]
[Ab] So this is [G] another tricky part, [Eb] right?
I'm using my [Dm] first finger.
[Ab] [Bb]
[F]
[Ab] [D] Right.
So first lick again, [Db] second [D]
lick.
[Ab]
[Bb] Cool.
Let me know what you think.
Uh, any questions or
