WOMAD may be coming to a town near you.
WOMAD, in case you're wondering, is the world of music, arts and dance tour.
It's headlined by Peter Gabriel, who joins us this morning on Today.
Good to see you.
And you.
And you.
I just said what it stands for.
What's the inspiration behind WOMAD?
Well, it's wonderful music being made all around the world,
and we just wanted to put together a festival that would present a lot of it.
We started about 12 years ago in England and spread to a few other countries since then.
When you play with these musicians from all over,
do you find yourself changing the style of your music or wanting to play different kind of music?
I think definitely working with some of these musicians has changed the way I write and perform.
And always on WOMAD, the musicians get together in different ways, and we have a great time.
Let's bring Jeffrey Oryeman, who is a musician from Uganda.
How did you two meet first?
We met a couple of years back when two representatives of WOMAD came to Paris for [Em] what they called,
you [G] know, they were looking for new talent.
[F#] And it was at the Radio Front [D#] International, and they got, you know,
they were told that there's [F#m] a certain [E] Ugandan, you know, guitarist, [G] songwriter who lives in Paris.
And then I was [Fm] contacted, and the [D#] following year in 1989, I started, you [E] know, participating in some of the WOMAD festivals.
And [B] you were a part, obviously, of the tour that begins this week in Atlanta.
And you're going to play for us this morning.
What's the name of the song?
The River.
All right.
