Hi there, my name is Camillo.
Welcome to another guitar lesson on jazz blues comping
With kind of a rhythmic funk feel
I got [B] this progression from an incredible modern-day blues guitarist called Kirk [N] Fletcher
There's a video of him playing this progression on YouTube
But there's no explanation as to what the the actual shapes are or kind of how the right hand
funk rhythm works
So I thought I'd make a video to break all that down
And I think the best way to do that is to zoom in on the guitar neck and just slowly take you through it
And then I'll try to go into a bit about how the the right hand works
So here's the slowed down version of this progression
Which actually feels a little bit weird to play at this tempo
So I'll do my best to stay in [G] time

Okay, so I just wanted to briefly talk a bit about the kind of strumming pattern that you'll need to familiarize yourself with
in order to play this style of kind of funky blues guitar and
Yeah, it's basically just a short kind of staccato
Sort of half strum where you just drum a few of the strings like this
[N] immediately followed by a full strum and
then an up strum after that and then repeat it
And
There's not really one strumming pattern that runs all the way all the way through this song or anything like that
I mean you could have to kind of make it up yourself
But
If you get that technique down it will you know make learning this progression and playing it with the right feel a lot easier
so
Playing it playing that strumming pattern with the chords and you have to kind of release pressure off the chord too in fact
at the appropriate time to give it that real staccato feel so it should sound something like this [Gm]
[G]
and
there's a part right at the beginning of this progression actually that
That if you were just to kind of isolate it and practice it over and over it's going to give you the right
Feel for the technique that you need for this this style of playing so it's just a little B flat section it goes
[Eb] [Bbm] [Eb]
[Bbm] [Eb]
[Bbm] [Eb] [Bb]

[Bbm] [Eb] [Bb]

need to be perfect really but
Yeah, if you just like I say practice this one bit over and over and you'll get this technique [Bbm] down
[Eb] [Bb]
[Eb] [Bb]
[Eb] [Bb] [B] You was happening there [Bbm] is it's just hammering on [Bb] the top [Db] part of a B flat
[Bb] B flat 7 chord
hammering on the major third to [Eb] this
bar from the D string downwards
Barring with the pinky and using the ring finger to kind of support it
[Db] [Bb]
Back to [Db] hammering
[Bb]
To B flat major chords so [Db] two hammers
[Bb] top part of a
And [Db]
[Cm] [Bb]
[N] then with it with the correct pattern and releasing it the right times on [Db] that thing

[Eb]

[Eb] [Bb] [G]
so it's not about doing it perfectly really.
It's just getting the right kind of feel
