Stephen [D#] Stroke is a fantastic ukulele [Am] player and teacher.
[B] He's the man to ask about George's
[C] techniques.
[F] It's relentless.
[D]
That is like watching a rockfather on a postman.
Yeah.
How good a [G] ukulele player was George Formby?
He was [A] incredible really.
He had a particular
right hand technique that he made his own.
[B] There hasn't really been a ukulele player
[Bm] since Formby or even before Formby that [A] played quite like him.
A [A#] very, very good rhythm player.
[C] Because I get quite angry [C#] at people because he's [C] very genial and sings silly songs.
They
kind of underestimate the musicianship of it.
But that is unjust, [C#] isn't it?
It [Cm] is really.
I think [B] the trouble is that Formby was such a successful [C] comic [A] performer [Cm] that [A] often his lyrics
and his songs [C#]
pigeonholed him.
But [C] when it came to actually [B] playing the ukulele, he was a [Am] true
sort of genius [C] really.
He's [F] fast, isn't he?
Very fast.
Yeah.
[D] So if you [C#] try playing along to [C] Leaning
on a Lamp Post and it's like phenomenal.
[B] You listen to it and you think that's fast.
But when
you try to play [C#] along to it, it's like, [C] whoa.
Could you give us an example of that?
An example,
probably not as fast as Formby.
