[Bm]
[D] The Fortunate Ones is two people just [G] putting their hearts out on the line every night.
We [Bm] try to make our audiences feel connected in an [G] inclusive and inviting place.
[D] Musically, we really are big on harmony.
We try to make our [G] shows dynamic and interesting.
We're still an acoustic [D]-based band on some level, but we've [G] definitely stretched [A] ourselves.
There's a lot more [G] kind of synths, keys, percussion.
[D] Again, we just want to create [Em] this dynamic and [D] exciting show that [G] people remember [A] and want to come back to.
We are a band from St.
John's, Newfoundland called Fortunate [Ab] Ones.

What I think [Ab] Fortunate [Eb] Ones do very well is [A] they can hit truths of being alive,
whether it's undertones of sadness or struggle or joy or [D] staying on your path.
They hit them [E] with the ability to uplift.
[A] I think they hit all of those things in the themes in this record.
Hold Fast is such [D] a great theme kind of [E] belief.
I really think that's what their [D] music does.
The growth that Fortunate Ones have had in the last four [Gbm] years as individuals performing has been [Bm] incredible to watch.
[D]
They put so much hard work in and it's really paying off.
[C]
[F] [C]
[Am] [Em]
[C] I've known Andrew for [C]
almost ten years, I suppose, since he's been kicking around [Am] at St.
John's.
I loved [C] Andrew's first record.
I loved his writing [F] and his singing and stuff.
Then [Am] often I'd hear him and Kat sing together.
I think a lot of [Am] us just kind of felt like what a pairing that would make.
When they [G] finally said it, sort of [F] officially making music together, we were all [Am] thrilled
because we knew it would be an [C] exceptional product, an exceptional [F] team, an exceptional [Am]
gathering of people.
[F]
The [Am] feedback that you get, [G] the bit of adrenaline rush you [C] get,
it's a pretty special [F] experience to be able to make [Am] music for people [Em]
and especially [F] singing [C] for people.
Andrew and I feel the same way.
We just love [Am] singing.
The rest of it, like playing the instruments, is super fun as well, [Am] but really for us what it's about is singing.
[F] It's just a [Am] cathartic, [A] amazing experience.
The record is filled with [E] beautiful [Gbm] textural [A] sounds and candy and shiny [E] moments and slickness.
But [Gbm] I think the thing [A] that people, at least I would hope, [Gb] the thing that people take away from our live [Gbm] show
is the [E] chemistry that we [A] have and we're [E] just kind of throwing everything we [Dbm] have out there
and [E] trying to create a dynamic.
There's only two people on stage, [Gbm] so it's really important to create an arc to the show,
a dynamic, [E]
kind of an ebb and a flow, and that's [Abm] something we work really [Gb] hard at.
[Dbm] [Abm]
[B] [E]
[B] I have, [Abm] I don't know, [Gb] this mind for [Dbm] pop music, so [Abm] there's a couple more poppy jams [B] on the record.
[E] But [Ebm] yeah, it's a really [Abm] special [Gb] record to me because I [Dbm] was really [Abm] involved from [E] day [B] one,
all of [E] the songs, [B] seeing [Abm] them through production [Gb] and recording.
[Dbm] [Abm] It was [F] really special.
[C] [G]
[F] Dan has gently kind of [C] introduced other [G] sounds to us.
He just has a different [A] skill set
and just [Am] very ethereal, sonic vibes that match really well with what [G] we've done.
So he's definitely informed our sound, both on the record and [Am] live, for sure.
You [A] know, I don't plan a whole lot.
I [Bm] don't [B] usually have charts or I don't even write down [A] chord progressions.
And I kind of think of every song as its own thing.
[B]
And I definitely think of making a record as its own thing.
Live is [A] live and an album is an album.
[Bm] I guess this album [E] was fun because it had a bit more of a pop sensibility,
so we got to make [A] a few more weirder noises and lots of [Bm] keyboards.
It's fun because we knew we had a [E] great working relationship already.
[A]
The Portuguese are the [D] sweetest.
They're the sweetest people.
[E] I mean, I guess salt of the earth, that's pretty [D] cliche, but it is very true in their cases.
You know, they're old souls, but they're full [Gbm] of energy and that comes through in [Bm] their shows.
I think that's why audiences just kind of eat [D] them up.
