[Em] [D] [E]
Some former Eagles members are now [C] welcome for their coveted [D] Kennedy Center [G] honors coming up in December.
Is that right?
[C] I'm John Bowden from Rock History Music.
[D] This [E] might be old news for a lot of big fans, but [C] the final word on the big night in [G] Washington, D.C. will be the last four members [C] of the band.
Don Henley, Timothy B.
Schmidt, [D] and Joe [E] Walsh will accept the honor.
A family member [Em] will probably represent the [G] Lakeland Fries.
What irked a lot of fans was the exclusion [C] of [F] original guitarist Bernie Ledin, [C] also original [G] bassist Randy Meisner, and Don Felder, [C] who joined the band [F] in 1974.
[C] So much so that over [Am] 10,000 fans [G] signed a Change [F].org petition to [C] include these three [Em]
guitarists.
But in the end, they will [G] not be included via [F] this message.
[Am] The Kennedy Center consulted with the Eagles, and through that discussion, [G] it was determined [C] that the four members who carry [D] the torch,
Don [E] Henley, the Lakeland Fries, Timothy B.
Schmidt, [Em] and Joe Walsh, will be awarded the [D] honors.
We [G] appreciate that there will be some debate about who [C] constitutes the Eagles.
This [D] determination does [E] not discredit the contributions of former band [C] members.
We've talked about [D] many variations of [G]
possible reunions with the Eagles on this [F] very channel.
[C] First, original member [G] Randy Meisner, who sang Take It to the Limit, Midnight [F] Flyer, and [C] Try to Love Again, among others.
He [A] quit in 1978 after the [G] Hotel California [F] tour.
[C] Some say he's suffering from a bipolar [G] disorder, a traumatic brain injury, or [C] alcoholism, and or.
One thing's for sure, Meisner [A] could not do it physically or mentally.
[G] He's not in good [C] shape.
In the early 2000s, [D] I was lucky enough [E] to interview Randy Meisner for about 90 minutes.
[C] It was a laid-back [D] afternoon.
He had the [G] time, I had the time, and we just followed our noses [C] and talked about all kinds of [D] things,
about the Eagles [E] and outside of that band as well.
He was [C] in good shape then, but certainly not [D] anymore.
He [G] was recently placed on a 72-hour psych hold in [C] a Los Angeles hospital after his wife [G] Lana Ray accidentally shot herself in March of this [F] year.
In 1974, [C] Don Felder [Am] joined the band and gave them a jolt of electricity.
He [F] even came up with lots [C] of the guitar parts for Hotel [G] California, including that iconic beginning.
[F] He was fired from the group in [Am] 2001.
A lawsuit was settled out of court.
There's been a lot of bad [F] blood between Henley and Felder.
[G] Bernie Ledden left the band in 1975, but he [F] recently toured with them.
So I think a lot of fans [Em] thought that he would at least [G] be at [F] the Kennedy City Honors, [C] but he's not [G] included.
Doesn't this start to sound like the [F] drama from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
Will Peter [Am] Cetera perform with Chicago?
[G] Will [Em]
Richie Blackmore be there with [D] Deep Purple?
[E] Bunny Carlos with Cheap Trick?
And that drama's [C] only from this past year.
[D] And then there was [G] that whole Steve Miller thing.
[C] The 2016 Kennedy City Honors [D] will take place December [E] 4th in Washington, D.C.
It will be broadcast December 27th on [D] CBS.
[G] Let's just say with all our posts about the Eagles, you, the [Em] fans, have been very vocal.
What do you [Bm] think about this?
