How's it going?
It's Jeff from Jeffrey-Thomas.com and I'm going to go ahead and walk you through
my bass tab arrangement for Fly Me to the Moon following Frank Sinatra's classic version.
Great bass lines on this tune.
So if you're on YouTube, make sure you're following the
link in the description to the tablature on my website.
And here we go.
Ready, [A] go.
[B] [C] [C#] [D] [F]
[F#] [G] [A] [A#] [B] [C]
[G] [F#] [F] [Gm] [A]
[C] [B] [D] [A] [F] [E]
[F] [G] [G#] [A] [Cm] [C#]
[D] [E] [F] [F#]
[G] [A] [B] [C] [F]
[E] [A]
[D] [C] [B] [A] [D]
[A] [G] [C] [E] [Gm] [C]
[B] [F] [G#] [A] [B]
[Cm] [C#] [D] [E] [F] [F#]
[G] [A] [A#] [B] [C]
[G] [F#] [F] [C] [A] [F]
[B] [F] [A] [N] Okay, so that is through page one and this is kind of in the works right now so I'm
finishing it up for another student.
I'd be glad to send you everything that I have.
So just make sure you drop your email in through the forum on the website.
Okay, the other
thing that I did on this tune is go ahead and write chord voicings out.
[A#m] So up in the
chord diagrams on this [D#] tablature page you'll see starting with [A] A minor 7,
[B] B minor [Dm] 7, [G]
G
7, [E] C major 7.
[A] So let me go ahead and put those into motion for you.
Starting from the A minor
7 verse A.
2, 3, 4, 5, [F]
[G]
[E] [F]
[E] [F] [A#]
B minor 7 flat [E] 5, B7, [Cm] A minor 7, [B]
[A] A7, [Fm] D minor 7.
So [C] to answer a question
that a [A] lot of my bass students have, [C] can you play chords on the bass?
Yes, totally.
But
you're not going to come in and you're not going to do like, you know, guitar chords.
I mean, some people do.
But the voicings get real muddy [A#] and it's usually you [E] trim down
to like just [N] two note voicings to make sure that they cut and you're not muddying up the
intervals which is just how the bass is.
The shapes are the same for the guitar but you
just have to be careful with how you voice the chords.
Everybody else who's working on
this is really kind of approaching it from a theory angle as well.
These bass lines are
awesome.
So what we're doing is we're talking about like what's happening over the chords.
For example, first measure.
[A] [C] [C#]
Okay, [A] so [B] A, [C] B, [C#] C, C sharp.
[F#] Alright, [C] then connecting [D] into
the D.
[F]
[F#] [N] So there's a lot of half step approach notes that the bass player is using on this
tune and a lot of jazz bass players use.
So typically what ends up happening is besides
just learning [A#] to play the line, it's always good to go back in and [N] see what this bass
player did over these chords because it's very, very cool.
Alright, so like I said before,
this is in the works so I have page one done and I will update you with whatever I have
and I plan to finish this whole tune up pretty quickly.
So thanks for watching and make sure
