[A] Hey guys, it's Carl Brown from GuitarLessons365.com.
Today we have a quick one.
We're going to learn how to play Float On by Modest Mouse.
There's just a few different guitar parts to check out here.
It's pretty cool though.
So let's start here with that rhythm guitar part that starts the song.
We're in standard tuning.
We're going to start with just a bar across the 6th fret on the high E, B, and the G string.
[Gb] So you pick that and hammer on quickly to the 7th fret on the B.
[Ab] And then just pick up your 2nd finger [Bbm] just so it's a straight bar for the 2nd chord.
Now you're going to hammer on the 8th fret on the G string [B] and bring the 7th fret on
the B back [Ebm] down as well.
Alright, so we haveyou
want to keep that bar [Gb] there though.
So we have this so far.
[Bbm]
[Ebm] And the last chord there, you're going to [Bbm] pick up these 2 fingers and move that 3rd
finger over here to the 8th fret on the D string.
Those 4 strings now.
And then you [Gb] just start over.
[Bbm]
[Ebm] [Bbm]
So that little melody that goes on after it is the same thing repeated.
Now he starts with kind of a muted note.
He's got a little bit [E] more gain on his guitar tone than I have right now too.
But it's going [Bbm] to besos [D] he always starts with this 10th fret here. But it's kind of muted so it doesn't sound that out of tune. With that first chord it [Gb] doesn't really work. It doesn't really work but that's what's going on. So it's kind of meant to kind of sound a little bit more abrasive. So it's 10 on [Bb] the G, then 9 [Dbm] on the B, and then [Bbm] 9I'm sorry, 11 on the B, then 9 on the high E. [Bb] [Bbm] 9 on the B, and then back to that 11 on the B. So we have thishit [Bb] [C] that 11 a few times and [Fm] do this again. [G] [Bb] Now after 3 times it's just [Abm] hit that 11 some and [Gb] then 9 and resolve it to the 11th fret on the [Bb] G. [Bm] [Gb] Alright, now during theI guess the chorus when they kind of bring it down, the guitar plays the same chords thatin the rhythm guitar part but it's picked a little differently. It sounds like this. [Bbm] [Ebm] [Bbm] [Gb] And it just repeats. So you hold that first chord and the picking pattern is just from the third string, second, back to the first, and back to the second. Repeat that. I'm going down, down, up, up. Now [Bbm] the same pattern on the next chord [Ebm] and the third chord. Now [Bbm] as you play that fourth chord, since it's a four string chord, the pattern's a little bit different. That's a fourth string, third, second, third, and then first, second, third, second. So all together, [Gb] [Bbm] [Ebm]
[Bbm] [Gb] it's repeat. Alright, so that's about it for all the chords and all the different picking patterns in Float On. I hope you guys enjoyed it. I'll see you again soon for GuitarLessons365.com. Bye bye.
