Start Jamming...
Hey, I'm playing 5'2 Eyes of Blue from 1925, straight from the charts of the Morristown Youth Jam.
So take the link in the video description, download the free ukulele song sheet, and
you can play along with me.
And if you'll be near Morristown, New Jersey, come out and play with us.
After the song, I'll do a basic tutorial [Cm] together with a slow motion close-up play along that
you might [G] find helpful.
Here [C] goes.
[E]
[B] [D]
[G] [C] [G]
[C] 5'2 [E] eyes of [Db] blue, oh what those 5'2 could do.
[D] Has anybody [G] seen [C] my gal?
[G] [C] Doomed up [E] nose, doomed down nose, [A] flapper yes sir, one of those.
Has [D] [G] anybody seen [C] my gal?
Now [E] if you run into a plot with two [Db] covered fur, [D] diamond rings, and all those [G] things,
bet [A] your life it [C] isn't her.
But could she [E] love, could she woo, [A] could she, could she, could she, could [D] she, could she
[B] anybody seen [C] my gal?
[E] [B]
[D] [B]
[C] [G] [C]
[E] [A] [D]
[G] [C]
[E] [A]
[D] [G]
[G] [C] [E]
[A] [D]
[G] [C]
5 [E]'2 eyes of [A] blue, oh what those 5'2 could do.
[D] Has [G] anybody seen [C] my gal?
[G] [Cm] [C] Doomed up [E] nose, doomed down nose, [A] flapper yes sir, one of those.
[D] Has anybody [G]
seen [C] my gal?
Now if [E] you run into a plot with two [A] covered fur,
[D] diamond rings, and all those [G] things,
bet your life it isn't [C] her.
But could she love, could she woo, [A] could she, could she, could she, could she, could [D] she,
has anybody [G]
seen [C] my gal?
[Am] Fun song.
1925.
90 years old.
Hooray.
Okay, none of the chords are [Bb] hard ones.
They really aren't.
There are a couple slightly unusual chords.
Go [G] from a G to a G augmented, which means you [B] just get a little uncomfortable and slide
your index finger up.
[G] [B] But it sounds cool, right?
And a [C] C to a C add 9, [G] which gets [E] you ready for, [C] that's all that does.
It's a segue from C to [N] a segue to your E7.
So you can actually drop off both of those though.
If you want to skip the G augmented and the C add 9, it'll still sound good.
That's why I left them in and didn't bother creating a simpler song sheet for beginners.
You can just drop them off if you want.
[C] [Ab] That's what the bright [Bb] red means on the song sheet, by the way.
The strum, I had a hard time deciding what to call it.
I called it a percussive honky-tonk strum.
The truth is it kind of goes along with the beat and the lyrics, and there's a lot of
down [C] in it.
[E]
[C] See, it just goes [E] down, down, down.
[Bb] But every [Gb] once in a while I dampen, or every [Em] once in a while I come [F] back up again, depending
on where in the song it is.
I don't know what else to say about that, other than try to hear the music and play
[C] along with it.
If you just make it a very regular, [E]
[Dbm] [D]
[G] [C] that's down, down, up, up, [E] down, down, down, up,
[A] up, down, down, down, up, up, down.
[C] That works.
It doesn't seem to have as much panache to me, but that would work.
If you have trouble with the strum, you could start with that, and then you could try to
add style later if you want.
Okay, I think that's all I'm going to talk about.
[Bb] I will do a slow motion close-up play along through the bridge.
[Cm] And in fact, I'll go, you know what, I'll go clear [N] to the instrumental in case you're
interested in the slightly [E] [Bb]
fancier stuff that I did in the instrumental.
You can do whatever you want there.
All I'm doing is playing through [Gb] the chords of the verses and bridges, [Gm] or in bridge, but
I'm adding a little panache on the A [B] string, and I'm doing [Gb] an E7 higher up.
I think that's the only funny extra [Ab] thing I did.
But I'll do those in slow motion close-ups so you can follow along if you liked that
and [Bbm] want to duplicate it.
Otherwise, if you're not going to stick around, hey, if you like the video, please like the video.

Now [E] if you run into a five foot [A] two covered with fur,
