My name is Robbie [B] Trujillo and I'm here to help you become a better guitar player and
learn how to play your favorite country songs on guitar.
I hope you're doing really great today.
I got some requests to do a lesson on the song called Fishing in the Dark by the Nitty
Gritty Dirt Band.
So that's what we're going to learn how to play today.
We're going to play this one in drop D tuning.
So get your sixth string tuned down to this low [D] D note.
_ _ [G] _ _ _
_ _ The chords we're going to play here are D and when we play this in drop D tuning we
play all [D] of the strings for the D chord. _
[N] We'll play G so that's fifth fret on the sixth string [G] and third fret on the second string. _ _
For E minor we're going to go second fret on [E] the sixth string, fifth string, and fourth
[Em] string and _ [A] the A chord.
_ _ We'll start out with the intro and [G] here for the intro I'm just playing the sixth, fifth,
[A] and the fourth strings. _
_ _ What I'm doing is hitting the sixth, fifth, and fourth all together.
Then I'm going to be adding on the second fret here on the fifth string.
I'm doing all down strums here.
So I'm going to do six down strums and every other [Db] down strum I'm going to add the [D] second fret here.
_ _ _ [E] Then we're going to switch [B] to up, down, up, down, up.
So I'll go up, down, up, [Bm] down, adding my second fret and then one more up hitting that fourth string open.
[A] _ _ [D] _
So [Ab] putting it all together it sounds [A] like this. _
_ _ _ _ If you want starting out on the verse you can play that same thing.
I'm just going to be playing the full chords and doing the strumming pattern of down, down,
[D] down, up, down, up.
[Ab] Here's the first verse and I'm also going to [D] be palm muting here so I'm lightly pressing
my right hand palm onto the strings while I'm doing the strumming.

Lazy yellow moon coming up tonight shining through the trees.
_ [G] Crickets are singing and the lightning bugs are floating on the breeze.

_ _ _ And when I'm doing the palm muting here on this verse I'm mostly hitting these lower
strings the fifth through about the second strings not really hitting the first string much. _
_ _ Across the field where the crick turns back by the old stone road.
_ [G] I'm going to take you to a special place that nobody knows.

[Ab] And ending the verse here on the A chord I'm just doing [A] down strums and [G] then just muting
it before we go back to the D chord for the chorus and I'm going [D] to strum full out so
no palm muting here on the chorus.
