FIREWATER Infomercial: The story behind "The Golden Hour" chords
Start Jamming...
[Em] I left America because [Ab] I couldn't stand looking at George Bush's [B] face anymore on the TV.
[Gb] [C] I kind of wanted to go see the [G] places that we were bombing, my [Em] country was bombing.
[B] In a way, this record is a document of [C] my attempt to gain understanding about what my country [Em] was doing.
[G] Things falling out of the [Cm] sky, [G]
a woman with [C] stones in her eyes.
[Gm] The original idea was to [B] travel from Delhi [Bm] in India to Istanbul in Turkey over land.
And I wanted to record along the way, so whatever musicians I met, I would basically record them for the [Gb] record.
[Bbm] [Gb] [Bb]
[Gb] [Bbm]
[Gb] [Bb]
[Db] [Gb] [Bbm] [Db]
[Gb] [Db]
[Ab] [A] [E]
[B] [Bbm] [Gb] I would [Dbm] basically [Gb] roll into a town [Db] and [Gb] check into the cheapest hotel I could find and ask the owner of the [Ab] hotel.
[A] I was told how [Gb] I could put on a dance party, a notch [Bm] party, which is basically the Indian or Pakistani version of a belly dance.
[Ab] Except I didn't want the [Gb] belly dancer and I didn't want [Bb] the singer, which is basically like [Bm] hiring the Rolling Stones and you tell Mick Jagger he has the day off.
[Gb] [Bbm]
[Db] [Bb] Communication was a problem and how we basically did it was I had one [Ab] microphone, so I'd get the whole [Eb] band going.
I [Ab] never got what I expected.
[Abm] There was always chaos, there was always lots of opium involved because [F] at least in India, [E] the Sufi musicians like [Ab] to take it.
[B]
[B] [F] I always got something better than what [Abm] I originally wanted [F] because of the lack of communication.
So in a way, the [E] song's really developed [Ab] and improved [F] because of the lack of communication.
[Ab]
[F]
I think [Bbm] the end result, because of how it was recorded [Abm] in [Bb] a hotel room, kind of [Abm] punk rock style, keeps it organic.
Keeps it in the firewater, sort of live, hafla spirit.
[Bbm]
[Gb] [Db]
[Ab]
[B]
[Ab] [Eb] Prior to this, firewater has [Cm] always been a completely analog band, but I thought maybe it was time for a change [Ab] and
[Fm] use the technology.
I had to record on a computer.
I [Eb] couldn't vlog a huge recording studio with me [G] through a pack stand.
So a laptop and a [Cm] microphone, basically it all fit in my backpack.
That's what I was limited to.
So once I was there, once I was already using the computer, it seemed to make [Fm] sense to try and roll with that.
So the thing I kind of liked about that [Cm] is that even though Israelis can't go to Pakistan, and [G] Pakistanis can't come to Israel because neither of those countries can seem to get [Cm] along,
that somehow a [B] bunch of Pakistanis and a bunch of [Gm] Israelis [G] wound up [Cm] playing on the same record with one fallen Christian.
I only made it as far as [G] the Afghanistan border, but I got a lot [D] of great, met a lot of great people and recorded a lot of great stuff.
And [Cm] it was [G] well worth the trip.
[F] So that's why this [Db] record is called The Golden Hour.
It's my favorite time of [Fm] day.
It's when things cool down [C] a little bit in the tropics [F] and you have [Bbm] a beer, a cigarette, watch the sun go [F] down.
Hope the sun comes back up [C] again tomorrow.
[Db] Maybe if you're lucky, [F] the moon will come out.
[Db] Dance under the stars.
[Bb] [F] That's what this record is about.
[Ab]
[B] [Dbm]
[A] And good.
You know, my bad.
So much [E] better than my.
[Db] So if you need a friend, why don't you come find it in the park?
[E] I'm a three legged dog gone [Ab] wrong.
[Abm] [Dbm]
