FIREFLY guitars at $139. How can they do it? chords
Start Jamming...
Hello.
You may have seen my video that I did a few months back, [A] 2017 December, I got it
just before Christmas.
I got this guitar.
It's a copy [B] of a Gibson ES-335 made by a company
called Firefly.
They sell on Amazon for $139.
And since I did that video, and I'll put a
video at the bottom here, since I did that video I've done a fret dress on it, new strings,
[Cm] and adjusted a few [G] things, and this guitar plays wonderfully.
So recently when Amazon
started selling Firefly [D] guitars again, I wanted to pick up another [B] one because I really wanted
one of the blue ones.
So I did.
I got one of the blue ones.
And here's where, here it
is.
But if [G] you look at it, it's not the same as the ones that were [B] selling last year.
Look
at the horns on this.
It's just like an ES-335.
And the horns on this, which aren't anything
like an ES-335.
But I know where this shape comes from.
And I'll show you.
This is my
1982 Ibanez AM-50.
It's a three-quarter size semi-hollow.
It's my all-time favorite guitar
for playing any kind of music.
This is a great guitar.
And I've had it since it was new in
82.
And look at the horns and the shape.
So the new Firefly's are really now imitating,
as far as I can tell, an Ibanez.
So how do the Firefly's sound?
Here's the one I bought
four months ago, the ES-335 clone.
I've got everything maxed out here.
This is my Vox
VT-30 amplifier with a 10-inch speaker.
And I've got everything set to manual mode so
it's not modeling anything.
[D] And it's set pretty much flat.
[E] So this is what it [G] sounds.
[A] [B]
[E] [G]
[C] [D] [G]
[Am] [Bm] [C]
[Dm] [F]
[G] Test both [D] pickups.
[G] Neck pickup.
[Am]
[Bm] [C]
[B] And the cruise control.
[G] [Am]
[Bm] [C]
[D] Okay, I'm going to switch guitars and
get the other Firefly up here [A] using the strap that they send you with the Firefly guitar and
the cord that they send you with the Firefly guitar, both of [Bb] which are nice.
[Em] So here we go.
So here's [Bb] the new Firefly guitar that I got about two weeks ago.
[B]
I haven't even changed the strings
on it.
I've done nothing to this guitar.
I didn't even have to set the action or anything.
I didn't
touch anything on this guitar.
It played well right out of the box.
Speaking of which, [A] if you
do order one of these, they come in a real flimsy cardboard [B] box with almost no packing inside of it.
So it's a miracle if it gets to you in one piece.
[Bb] I didn't have any trouble with either [Gb] of the ones
I bought, but I'm just [Bb] warning you.
Anyway, here's what this sounds like.
[B] Same amp settings,
same cord, same strap.
[G]
Middle position.
[Am] [Bm] [C]
[E] [G]
[C] [D]
[E] Neck position.
[G] [Am] [Bm] [C]
[G]
[F] [Em]
[C]
[Em] [B] I think these [G] guitars sound really
good, especially when you consider it's $139.
And this one I haven't done anything to.
This is how
it came right out of the box.
So now that you've heard different guitars here, I can tell [B] you
value-wise.
I bought this guitar in 1982.
I still have the original tag on it [A] from the music store
that I bought it from in 1982.
This was $450 back then.
I checked on the computer.
In today's dollars,
that [G] would be $1 ,180 for this guitar.
For the Epiphone Sheridan, [B]
which you can buy on Sweetwater,
I'm looking at it on my computer right there, $699 [G] for an Epiphone Sheridan.
$139 for this,
and $139 for this.
[Gm]
Are the other two better guitars?
Yes.
But with a little work and new
pickups, I imagine that both these guitars [G] could sound just as good as that Sheridan.
Maybe not
as good as the [B] Ibanez, but [G] pretty darn close.
And for somebody who's looking to either start
playing guitar or wants to [Gm] work on guitars, [G] maybe learn how to do neck adjustments and fret filing
and things [Gm] like that, $139.
I don't say you can beat that.
Okay, that's it.
Thanks.
