Finbar, you're going [G] to sing a song that I've known for a [E] long long time, the Valley of Knockin' Ore
but the version you sing is [G] slightly different to the one that I [F] know
and maybe you'll [E] tell me something about it, how you got the song
I got it from my father, I hopefully used to [D] sing it years and years ago
as you know he was a fiddle player, [F#] you know
I talked to my father one time about the actual fight [D#] itself in the Valley of Knockin' Ore
he says nobody knows what happened there, you know
as [E] far as he was concerned that they [F] were ambushed, you know
and probably [D#] set up, you know, nobody knows
[C] Betrayed in other words
Betrayed, but nobody knows back in them days
all he remembers was it was a mother's heartbreak for her son, you know
from going into the glen and finding the two [E] bodies of their two young boys
[C] when they were 16 years old, you know
the heartbreak [F#] for a mother's loss of [D] that
and that's what he saw in it, that's what he used to sing in it
That's the version you're singing, from her point of view
Yeah, the mother's loss, although they were two brave lads and you know
but it was her, it was the woman that found them, you know
that went and asked them, you know, like a woman would for her child
So maybe you'll sing it for me now
I'll sing a bit of it for you, yeah, thanks
Right then, Bart, take it away
