[G] [D] [Ab] Hi, Jack Bennett here, welcome to another Sleashman Chop Shop lesson.
In this lesson I'm going to cover a really popular 32nd note, 16th note fill between the 1st tom and the snare drum.
I'll just play it slow, speed it up for you and then I'll break it down and show you exactly what I'm doing.
This is the pattern.
[B]
[N]
Now you can play it a couple of different ways.
You can launch straight into the double like
Or you [G] can play a snare note first with the left and then launch into it.
So let me show you the pattern that I'm using.
It's actually a cross phrase by the time that you put it within a 32nd note and 16th note context.
The actual pattern to start out with is like a triplet and 32nd note triplet phrase.
What we're going to do is we're going to play right, left, right as beat 1 of the triplet.
[Db] And then we just play left, right afterwards.
So it's like
Right, left, right, left.
Right, left, right, left.
So you can think of it as triplets to begin with and I'll count over the top.
[Gm] You'd get 1 and a 2 [G] and a 3 and a 4 and a 1.
And [Em] it's a good idea to throw down the first note fairly solid because you want to get the clarity of that when you're playing it on the toms.
[B]
Now when you put it within a 16th note and 32nd note context, it ends up being a cross phrase and you end up getting the fast notes starting on
1 and a 2 and a 3 and a 4 and a 1.
So you're getting like
[Bb]
[Ab]
[C] And you've got to get used to going kind of towards yourself like that.
By the time you really speed it up, you're doing a fill [B] like
[N]
[Db] Now you can also do another variation on it if you go [G] between the floor tom and the first tom for the doubles.
Instead of [Ab] going
You can go
[G] So that's just
It's exactly the same thing but you're just moving the right hand [Ab] onto the floor tom.
So the right hand's moving from the floor back to the snare.
And
Okay, so you're getting like
With the right hand.
[Gb]
[Db]
That's the pattern!
