Now, above me here are some of the reviews of a secret gig we attended earlier in the week by Eurythmics.
The event was to celebrate the release of their new video LP, Savage, in which Annie Lennox, as usual, plays the woman of many guises.
We filmed several of the tracks and will be broadcasting them in a couple of weeks.
Great live performance by Eurythmics just as a duo, only attended by 100 people.
But for now, just to whet your appetites, here's a clip of them performing Savage, and to introduce it, Annie Lennox as herself.
[G] I often wonder whether one has to be completely, you know, sort of [Ab] dismal in order to write [G] good songs, and lots of songwriters have said that.
I'm not sure that it's actually the case.
I've written a lot of songs and I've been very happy, actually.
But I guess my viewpoint is always that I can see all sides of things, you know, and that good and bad coexist, and black and white coexist,
and all kinds of textures and threads of consciousness coexist, and that it's important lyrically to put that across in a simple way,
so that when people read into what you've said, that they can see the depth of it, you know.
It's not obvious.
Eurythmics songs are not obviously deep and meaningful, but it's there, [E] the content is all there.
I've always sort of felt that, lyrically, Eurythmics are a bit like haiku [G] poetry, which is simple and stated, and when one looks [A] at it, there are many facets to it.
