I'm really looking forward to coming back here.
I played the Lounge a few years ago when my first album was out.
And I was working on new songs while I was traveling.
And this one was one of the ones I was working on.
Usually when I get an idea, I'll just sing it into my phone
or whatever and work on it later and get the ideas.
And this one I was kind of working on as I went.
And I'd put the phone up there and just record.
And actually, on this very piano,
[G#] I was working on one of the songs that
ended up on the album.
So I've been looking [F#] forward to coming back and getting
to play it here.
So this song is called, The People I Know.
And it was partially written right here
on this Dimeway and [A] Sons.
[B] Yeah, I'm going to take a golf [E] clap.
[C#m] [A] It's about trying to get close to those people in your [B] life
that you never just manage [E] to make it work.
And if you don't have [C#m] people like that,
that's the way people feel about [A] you.
[B] [E] It's called, The People I Know.
[C#m] [A] I got a best friend who [B] I've known some time.
After all of these years, [C#m] I got to read his mind.
And when [A] he leaves his [B] room, I can feel him sigh.
As his thoughts, they slip out [C#m] like whispers.
[A] Who would have known it'd be [B] this hard to wait [E] for one
person to person [C#m] to communicate?
And it [A] never feels dramatic, but we [B] complicate.
Thank [E] God for old friends.
They [C#m] always forgive us.
[F#m] I'm longing for the days when I'm not so tense,
[G#m] when friends are only that, and everything makes sense.
[A] If I am not myself, then who am I pretending to [B] be?
E-E-E [E]-E.
And I said, I'm gonna get [C#m] by without [A] the help
of the people [E] I know.
For better or [C#m] worse, we all come together,
and [A] they won't let me die [E] alone.
[A] Said, they won't let me die [E] alone.
[A] And I got a sister [B] who I barely see,
despite the [E] fact that she lives right [C#m] up the block from me.
And when [A] we run into [B] each other on the street,
it's like two strangers, so [C#m] to say.
[A] When I was younger, she was younger [B] too.
It [E] seems the space is the only thing that [C#m] really grew.
And [A] now we're both grown up and still [B] without a clue.
Thank [E] God for family.
They always forgive us.
[F#m] I'm longing for the house where we were always raised.
[G#m] In every family tree, some history [A] remains.
If I am not myself, then who am I pretending to [B] be?
E-E-E [E]-E.
And I said, how am I gonna get [C#m] by without [A] the help
of the people [E] I know?
For better or worse, we [C#m] all come together,
and [A] they won't let me die.
[E] [A] Said, they won't let me die [E] alone.
[F#m]
Maybe [A] I'm not supposed to be [C#m] close to [F#m]
all other [A] people.
I need them [C] most.
[D] Need them [E] most.
And I said, how am I gonna get [C#m] by without [A] the help
of the people [E] I know?
For better or worse, we [C#m] all come together,
and they won't let [B] me die alone.
I [E] said, now how am I gonna get by when [A] I'm afraid
of the people I know?
For better or worse, [C#m] we all come together,
and they won't let me die alone.
[E] Said, [A] they won't let me die alone.
[E] Said, [A] they won't let me die [E] alone.
[A] Said, they won't let me [E] die alone.
