ELP California Jam Special chords
Start Jamming...
Each of them a massive success [Gb] culminating in [Eb] their masterpiece [Fm] Brain [Cm] [C] Salad [Cm]
Surgery.
For any rock band to achieve real success they need to [Fm] crack America.
The LP [Bb] were no exception.
[Ab] Emerson, Lake and Palmer in America [G] was extraordinary.
The people in America loved the band.
English bands were popular [Dm] at that time
but Emerson, Lake and Palmer they played [D] every town in America
and every [Gb] town in America they could set out an arena
and everywhere they were loved.
[Bb] [G] ELP were something you had to go and see.
[F]
I want to hear Emerson, Lake and [Cm] Palmer.
By April 1974 ELP had conquered America
and were headlining the massive California Jam Festival
[F] where they played to 350,000 fans.
[Bb] Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends.
I'm so glad you could attend.
Come on inside.
[Eb] Be careful as you pass.
Move along, move along.
They had two PA systems.
It [Ab] went back so far that one PA system [D] didn't go [E] far enough
so they had [Bb] another one [Bb] halfway back.
It was just a massive gig.
In hell and hell and hell you gotta see [Eb] the show.
It's a [B] dynamo.
You gotta see [Eb] the show.
It's [B] on the road.
[Ab] Lucky for your eyes and pull lots of women's ties.
Lots of Jimmy Crow.
Once you're [D] underway with those sort of [Bb] performances
the [D] nerves and everything disappear and you play
and it just unfolds like any other show would.
Except when the response [B] comes of course it's coming from 600 [Eb],000 people
instead of [Eb] 6,000 people or whatever it [Abm] is.

[Abm]
[Ab] [B] For four years the ELP live show had been growing as a theatrical extravaganza.
It climaxed at the California Jazz.
I was more influenced by guitar players I think than other keyboard players.
Guitarists like Pete [Ab] Townshend, [Db] Jimmy Hendrix.
And I was probably a little [Ebm] bit jealous about the guitar players
that could roam [E] around the stage [Abm] and check out the audience.
I wanted to [G] make the [Eb] Hammond organ like a [Db] part of me to be mobile
but it [Eb] wasn't easy to make [Abm] a 350 pound piece of equipment move with you on stage.
[G] [Eb]
[G]
[F] [Eb]
[B] [A] [D]
With Keith, when he got on stage [Eb] and that vehicle was really working
he [D] lifted the audience to his [Ebm] playing and his antics on [D] stage
like nobody else did at that [G] time.
And not many keyboard players [C] have ever done since.
[G]
[C]
[Ab] [D]
[Eb] [E]
[F] [Gb] [Ab] Keith in [E] particular wanted to [Am] do things that were ever expanding.
If there was a [D] new piece of technology from Mr.
Moog, Keith wanted it.
I mean Keith wound up with [C] what [A] looked like one of those [Am] old fashioned telephone keyboards
that you sometimes see operators [G] plugging into
like a demonic [D] telephone operator on stage putting plugs [A] in.
[C] I think by 72, [A] beginning of three, we were [D] really kicking.
We were starting [A] to look at whatever [Abm] pyrotechnics were available or allowed
whatever could be done technically, how much can be transported.
[Ab] But to have three articulated trucks with your name on the top
[Eb] jammed to the gills with equipment was extravagant but the public loved it.
At the [F] California Jam in 1974, ELP [Ab] unveiled their latest piece of rock [Am] theatre.

So glad you could attend
Come inside, come inside
There you are in the glass
Stars are really playing a grass
[Eb] He can't buy you fast
Move along, move along
Come inside, the show's about to start
Guaranteed to blow your head apart
[Bb] There's no show, you'll get your money's worth
Greatest show in heaven, hell on earth
You gotta [Eb] see the show
It's a [B] dynamo
You gotta see [Eb] the show
[B] It's rock and roll
[Ab] Right before your eyes, you're gonna laugh from the sky
Now you can see him rise, then he dies, then he [Bb] dies
Come inside, the show's about to start
Guaranteed to blow your head apart
You gotta see [Eb] the show
It's a [B] dynamo
