Hey, what's up guys?
Matt here with Acoustic Selection.
If you've never played the piano,
you're probably looking at something like this.
To [C#m] see you high and lifted [A]
up, [C#m] shining in the light of your [B] glory.
[C#m] Pour out your power [A] and love, as we [C#m] sing holy, [F#] holy, holy.
And thinking, I can never do that.
[F#m] But trust me when I say the piano is not that difficult.
[N] What you want to do is break down, learn just a few chords.
That entire song is played with
four simple chords.
And I'm going to teach you in this video.
Learn with your right hand,
then with your left hand, then combine the two.
So you're going to learn the chords with
one hand.
[C#m] High and [A] lifted up, [C#m] shining in the light [B] of your glory.
Right there was just three chords.
Then you're going to learn the left hand with the bass.
[C#m] Pour out your [A] power and love, as we sing [C#m] holy, holy, [B] holy.
Then you're going to combine the [C#m] two.
[A] Shining in the light of your [B] glory.
So let's zoom in closer here and learn the piano today.
You can do it.
Okay, so let's [E] learn this song here.
You're going to learn four chords.
First the E chord.
Find your E note and play an E, a G sharp, and a B note.
That's going to be your E chord.
So I use my thumb, first finger, and middle finger.
Because a lot of times I'll play also a high [G] note.
For G, [A] high G, A, high A, and so forth.
But if you're starting out and you want to use your thumb,
middle finger, and pinky, that's fine.
[E] I use thumb, first finger.
There's your E chord.
Now [B] for your B chord, B, you're going to have to memorize.
I could teach you simple ways, but the easiest way for these four is to memorize.
Your B note, your D sharp, and F sharp.
Then for your [A] A chord, it's played just in the same formation as an E,
but moved down.
A, C sharp, and E.
There's your A.
And then a C sharp minor looks difficult,
[C#m] but it's a C sharp, an E, and a G sharp.
So what you're going to do is start out learning with those four chords.
[B] E, [A] B, A, and C sharp minor.
You're going to start with just your right [E] hand.
Open the eyes of my heart, Lord.
That E.
Just keep on hitting, keep a steady pace.
Keep that [B] steady rhythm.
Then B.
Open the eyes of my heart,
because I want to, then go to [A] A.
See you.
Because I want to, back to E.
See you.
Repeat [E] that same thing.
Open the eyes of my heart, Lord.
[B] Open the eyes of my heart,
because I [A] want to see you.
A.
Because I want to see you.
[E] Now on this [C#m] bridge, or leading up to the chorus,
go to a C sharp minor.
Remember, two black keys and this middle white one.
C sharp minor, that's like an Oreo chord.
Black, then white here, then black.
I just made that up on the spot there.
I know where that came from.
[A] C sharp minor to A.
[B] C sharp minor to B.
Repeat it twice.
To [C#m] see you high and lifted [A] up.
[C#m] Shining in the light [B] of your glory.
Four beats per chord.
[C#m] Pour out your [A] power and love,
as we sing [C#m] holy, holy, [B] holy.
And then for the [E] last little part, it's going to be [B] E, [A] B, A, E.
[E] Holy, holy, holy.
B.
[B] Holy, holy, holy.
A.
[A] Holy, holy, holy.
I want to see you.
And then what you're going to do again,
[C] then learn with your left hand those same [E] chords.
Get where you're comfortable [C#m] with E, A, [B] [C#m] B, and C sharp minor there.
And [E] you're going to play,
What I do is play both hands together,
then just the right hand to give what's called a rhythmic pattern.
Open the eyes of my heart, Lord.
[B] Then B.
Open the eyes of my heart,
because I want [A] to see you.
A.
Because I want to see [E] you.
And you do that throughout the whole thing.
See [C#m] you high and [A] lifted up.
And after you get really advanced,
what you want to do is keep that same [C#m] four beat timing,
but just bounce around within that chord,
but just keep the timing the same.
See you high and [A] lifted up,
[C#m] shining in the light of [B] your glory.
[C#m] Pour out your [A] power and love,
as we [C#m] sing holy, holy, [B] holy.
[E] Holy, holy, holy.
[B] Holy, holy, holy.
[A] Holy, holy, holy.
I want [E] to see you.
So don't think of that I'm doing some certain rhythmic pattern.
I'm just keeping that same [C#m] timing [C#] and bouncing [A] around.
Like I said, even eventually I get where I play a high E with my [E] pinky,
[D] or [C#] whatever [A] the root note is.
So for an A, I play a high [Am] A, C, high [D] C, and so forth.
To play [C#m] around, first get comfortable with those four chords.
E, [B] A, [C#m] E, C sharp minor, then right hand, left hand, then combine them.
