Hey guys, Matt here.
Hope you're doing well
I get a lot of requests to teach this song and do this song and I love getting requests
Don't stop those and I try to do the best I can at meeting each one I get
But for this piano lesson, I want to do a song by third day
Nothing compares because I love the lyrics and it's really what it all boils down to the lyrics are so simple
But just says nothing compares
to the greatness of knowing you Lord and
We get so caught up in rules and trying to do this and that but it's really that simple that nothing compares
To the greatness of knowing knowing Lord knowing the price Christ paid on the cross for us
That sometimes I felt I'm guilty this we get so deep in the lessons
But it comes down to the greatness of that good news of knowing you Lord
But through the Christ that was prayed on the cross through Jesus Christ
We can know you Lord and nothing compares to this so let's dive into the song thought I'd share that in my heart really fast
Alright, let's go over here.
Nothing compares to you
The chords are going to be throughout the whole [G] song
the G chord
by your G note every other white key
It's gonna be your D
[Dm] Which is a D note every other white key, but take your [D] first finger to the sharp
[G] so G
[D] to D
Which is a D F sharp and a an E [E] minor which your E [Em] note every other white key and
then [C] a C
every other white key
The great thing I like about this song is it really [Ab] works on your timing it makes [G] you be patient with the piano
So this goes up
I've [D] heard all the [G] stories
[Em] And [G]
I've [D] seen all the [G]
signs
Witnessed all the glory
Tasted [D] all that's [G] fine
So that verse just gonna be let's start with just your right hand G D
E minor and a lot of times even on E minor [E] on this I'll play just the [Em] outside and then work in so it [G] goes up
I've [D] seen all the [G] stories
And I've [D] seen all the
[G]
Witnessed all the glory
Tasted all that's fine
[Em]
Nothing [G] compares
[D] To [G] the greatness
[C] Greatness [D] of no, so the chorus [G] is gonna be a G [D] to a D
[C] To [D] a C back to D twice nothing [G] compares
[D] To the [C] greatness [D] of knowing you
[G]
[D] [C] Nothing
[D] [G] compares [D] to the [C] greatness [D] of knowing you
[G]
[D] [C]
Oh
[D] [G] So then you add that left hand so that's gonna be your bass note so on two beats on two count you'll play both
And then just your right hand
nothing compares
To the [C] greatness [D] of know you
[G]
[C] Nothing [D] [G] compares
You notice if it's not to kind of break up that choppiness what I'll do is leave out that middle so I can play it
So you're keeping it the same one two one two [C] one [D] two
one keep it at two beat timing, but [G] it's
[C]
[D] [G]
[D] [C]
[D] You'll see me in other videos do this a lot of times on that transition.
I'll play the middle note first nothing [G] compares
To [D] [C] the greatness [D] of know you
[G]
[C]
[D] [G]
[Bm] nothing compares
It's called what's called a lead-in note you're leading in that next chord to give that smooth [G] transition
And [Ab] also you can't see here by pressing this [G] pedal
Because without the pedal you [D]
have no [G] blend that pedal allows those chords to
[D] [C] Nothing [D] [G] compares
[D] To [C] the greatness [D] of knowing you
[G]
[D] [C]
[D] [G]
Nothing compares [D] to the [C] greatness [D] of know
[G] [D]
If [C] you [D] want to get really advanced and totally advance [G] your playing
The reason I use a lot of people write me why to use your thumb first finger middle finger
Middle finger because I use my pinky and it allows me to [C] stretch instead of doing [G] this
If you want to use your first middle pinky, that's fine
But I play the fees because I'll stretch and play a high G so
Is a full rich sound high D [C] [D] high C
[G] So allows me to really go back [D] and forth
[Bm] nothing [G] compares
[D] To the [C] greatness [D] of know you
[G] [D]
[C] [D]
[G] Nothing compares to the [C] greatness [D] of know you
[G]
[D] [C] Hope
[D] this [G]
helps you out if you know anyone interested learning [N] piano
I now have my praising 10 days piano DVD complete
It goes over how to write songs how to blend chords how to [D] advance your playing
[Am] I
[G] Do chord inversions just a few [N] things that I don't teach in all my lessons
But kind of helps advance your [B] playing how to write your own music all [G] that kind of stuff
But uh anyone, you know, maybe in your church or something.
I check it out
[N] You can do one CD or the guitar and piano DVD bundle it
Kind of air however you want to do it but um, or just check out
I got so many free lessons on here.
You don't want to buy anything.
Keep going with the free ones.
That's [G] what I do
