[Dm] [N] Alright, this is going to be Foster the People with Pumped Up Kicks.
Very very popular song right now.
You hear it everywhere yo!
Anyway, I am Finbar of Finbar Bass.
Okay so what are those bass videos all about down when you click on the YouTube text box right there?
Well, bass playing is kind of a time of discovery.
You know, it's like an adventure.
You're learning new stuff all the time.
You're increasing your chops.
You're getting better right?
So we need to practice bass.
And when we're practicing, you know, and learning all these different techniques like through
these videos, why not make it fun right?
I mean that's great.
If you can actually get better on the bass, you know, and learn all these different songs
or techniques or whatever and you know, and have fun doing it instead of just doing it
through you know, repetitious you know, study, then that's a fantastic thing.
Then that's fun.
You're doing it through something that you love.
You're doing it through music.
And that makes it just so much easier to do and so much better.
So don't forget, click on the clicker box right down there in the YouTube text box.
I think it's really [F] going to help you out.
So what are you doing in this song?
You are [Ab] just
[F] like that.
I'm going to move my microphone.
There now maybe you can hear me.
Ha!
Okay so you're on [Ab] the first fret of the E string.
This big heavy low string right [F] here.
[Gb] So actually hit that three times.
[F] You're going to hit it once.
[Em] Then you're going to hit it twice.
Then you're going to hit this [Ab] third fret and then the fourth fret.
[F]
[Ab] [F] Sound familiar?
[Ab] [G]
Then you're going to hit that fourth fret again.
[Ab]
And then you're going to do this sweet run right here.
[C] [Eb]
[Ab] [Bb] And what that is, is you're hitting the fourth fret of the E,
[Eb] [G] first fret of the A, third
fret of the A, [Gbm] and then right up on here, the first fret [F] of the D.
So if I do that all really slow.
[G]
Ha!
I'm just kidding.
That was [Gb] extremely slow.
[F] So if I do it faster than that, just [Ab]
[Eb] [D]
like that.
And you ended up on this first fret of the D.
You're actually going to hit that two [Eb] more times.
[Bb] [Ab] Right?
So you're going to go first fret, first fret.
[Eb] Then third fret of the A.
And then first fret of the A.
[Bb] [B]
Just like that.
[Eb] [Bb]
And then you ended up on the first fret of the A.
You're going to hit that two more times.
[B]
Right?
So you got first fret, first fret of the A.
And then you're going to hit here, back over
to our friend, the fourth fret of the E string.
And then back to the first fret of the E string.
So I played that [F] all pretty slow.
[E]
So you can see, I'll play it with one finger so you [Fm] can definitely see where I am.
[G] [Ab] [Bb] [C]
[Eb] [Bb]
[Ab] [F]
[Ab] [Eb]
[Bb]
[F] Just like that.
And this gets jazzed up a little bit in different parts of the song.
This part remains pretty much the same.
[Ab] Right?
[Eb]
And then this part here, you can play.
[Bb]
[Eb] [Bb] Right?
If you want to jazz it up a little bit.
So I got [Eb] first fret twice, first fret of the D twice like normal.
But then instead of [Bb] going
[Eb] You're going to [Bb] go
So you hit the first fret twice of the D.
Then you're going to hit the first fret of
the A.
Third fret.
And then first fret of the A again.
Right?
Then, where you would normally [Ab] go
[Bb] You can go crazy, right?
Hit the first fret of that A.
And then you're going to hit it again and then you're going
to hammer on to that third fret of the A.
And then back to the first fret.
So what the hammer on is, you're going to hit that.
You're going to hit the first fret of the A again.
And after you do that, [C] you're going to take your third finger and hit percussively [E] so
you're not plucking [Bb] that.
You only pluck it twice.
[C] [Bb] See?
[C]
So you're going to hit with your third finger.
You're going to smash down on there percussively [Bb] to get that sound.
[F] And [Gb] then you're going to go back of course to the fourth fret of the E and then the first fret.
So if I do those two [F] slow
[Ab]
[C] [Eb] There you go.
[Bb]
Hammer on.
[F] [Gb]
Just like that.
Alright!
Foster to people.
Pumped up kicks.
You got it.

Pretty much stays the same through the whole thing.
