[C] [Eb]
[F] [G]
[D] That moves [F] me.
Bravo.
[Eb] Well I've known Earl 15 years at least.
[Cm] I guess I consider him my [E] best friend and I [Gb] feel he probably considers me the same.
[E] I think here I am.
I see [D] myself as an outgoing, flamboyant sort of person in many ways.
And [D] I express my [G] needs, my inner needs, this way.
And Earl has trouble expressing himself in words but it all comes out in his music.
Why the [Ab] banjo?
I mean that's an instrument people thought was sort of a limited instrument.
[E] This is what Earl Scruggs did for the banjo.
[D] Prior to Earl Scruggs the banjo was a rhythm [Ab] instrument.
It was an instrument of the clowns, the clowns of the country.
[D] And the Grand Ole [G] Opry played the old banjo and they had to make up because there was no music in it.
But Earl made it a versatile instrument with his new style, the three finger [D] Scruggs style.
[Gb] Made it a true instrument of music rather than just a rhythm.
What's happening to Earl?
Where is he going?
I don't know.
I don't know where he's going.
But [D] [G] I'm sure he'll get there.
And what his image will be when he gets there I don't know.
But I have an idea it will be an image of a person [Gb] who, [G] it's hard for me to describe,
a person who's sensitive to the world around him and who is attempting to interpret that world through his music with his songs.
[Bm] One thing that helps get [C] the particular sound that I'm doing
[G] is the timing of both the right hand and the left hand.
For instance, like a [A] slide [G]
or a pull off.
That's what we refer to as a pull off.
And it's mainly the timing I think you would say.
Well how do you, give a demonstration of how you pick with your
Very good.
[E]
You read music?
No I don't.
Well how can you develop something so complicated?
[G] Well I [A] started playing like when I was five years [Bm] old.
And I pretty well [D] lived and breathed [B] the banjo all the way.
So a lot of it, [G] well
